Hi fellas,

im a hardware noob and hence i seek your opinion.

i am a gamer with my partner and one of our pc is obsolete and broken, hence im keen to build a gaming PC

coincidentally Amazon is hosting a black friday event with good deals for hardware, hence i am starting this thread for further discussion and advice..

hope you all don't mind!

i hope to play the latest games at mid-level requirements..

what ive bought (links are included for interested users to buy as well)

1) Intel 730 SERIES 2.5-Inch 240 GB Internal Solid State Drive US120
Amazon.com: Intel 730 SERIES 2.5-Inch 240 GB Internal Solid State Drive SSDSC2BP240G4R5: Electronics

hope others can share good hardware parts on sale that is compatible with my system!

i do apologize if what i say doesnt make sense because in a most literal sense, i am a noob in hardware!

btw: i am not keen to source every component from amazon, just a few parts that have international warranty and can save a little here and there. eventually i would go down to PC Themes to fill in the rest and pay them to help me assemble! :s12:

1) Name these 'latest games' that you are playing.

2) Budget?

3) List down the specs of your old PC and state the manner in which it is broken.

only intel ah.. wah lao.. ok la, then this thread is useful for those keen to buy intel products then..

noted, i wont go for alternative shipping also.. will just grab the rest from PC Themes

1) Name these 'latest games' that you are playing.

I have only been playing unfortunately. We hope to move onto other games like Dragons Age, BF4 and the other subsequent series, GTA 5.

We also do a bit of photoshop/adobe premier, nothing aggressive, we are just processing our holiday photos and videos

2) Budget?

total system budget around $1.2-1.4 :)

3) List down the specs of your old PC and state the manner in which it is broken.

my old PC already 4-5 years old.. but still can play dota.. now the mobo broken.. i think.

thanks again for your very helpful information

I would suggest you to get high end ram (amazon more worth it), but if u buy normal range one local will be more worth it.

Corsair fans / AIO water cooler is also worth it to buy. Just finger cross hope don spoil lol.

The more items you buy from pcthemes, the bigger the discount you can probably get. Just buy the rest locally. Only Intel has international warranty, but CPU and mobo set buy from sls got additional discounts.

Jus dun expect the same lvl of dsicounts as compared to tradepac. Pc themes knows that TP is their rival and losing customers to them le. They quite niao in their discounts.

CPU+ Mobo: MSI B85-G41 PC MATE + i5 4460 (357)
RAM: G.SKILL RIPJAWS-X 1600MHZ ( 4GBx2pcs ) CL9 (115)
GPU: ZOTAC GTX 970 4GB TWIN FAN (509)
HDD: TOSHIBA 1TB 7200RPM (69)
DVD-RW: LG 24X DVD-RW SATA OEM (25)
PSU: SUPERFLOWER HX 600M GOLD MODULAR (109)
Case: CORSAIR 200R (85)
OS: WINDOWS 7 HOME PREM (125)

Total cost: $1394

Buy at PC Themes, #04-15, and ask for discounts. DIY yourself. If you can't into DIY, get PC Themes to assemble for you for a fee.

Notes:

1) The GTX 970 in this rig will be able to play Dragon Age: Inquisition and Battlefield 4 at max settings smoothly in 1080p. No guarantees that it will be able to do the same for GTA V as it is not released yet.

2) Got Mastercard? Consider buying the GPU and PSU from lazada.com on a Monday and get a 10% discount when you pay with a Mastercard. Do note that discounts are capped at 10% and you may have to buy these items seperately.

3) Your old system, could it have been a broken PSU? Can consider recycling parts from your old rig into the new system to save $$$ or try to convert it to a HTPC/BT/DL rig if it is possible to repair it.

970 can pretty much play everything maxxed (except 4k or multi monitors), so not really mid-range. Plus over budget. (It's a great card though.)

Depends.

But 1 thing for sure they do not sell things on SRP.

So that is some small savings for a head start already.

For instance

MSI GTX970 4gb Twin Frozr V Gaming ~ $579 SRP
They selling ~ $555

Thats $24 off the the standard pricing.

If you buy the entire PC, it could go even lower. It can be $35-$45 off the normal $555.

It is possible that a buyer could walk out $510 GTX970 msi.

As a entire rig discount, Dont expect them to give $100 discount for a $1000 or less rig.

I do see people walking away $1000 rig but paid $30-40 lesser. The discounts will go higher and higher when you buy more pricey components.
