[Build Log] Project GeneXis 2.0

After a year, Project GeneXis 1.0 has been a great PC journey for me. It is my gaming rig, my pcw rig, my movie theatre rig. It has been an enjoyable one and it is my very first project on custom water cooling.

With the experience i had right now, GeneXis 1.0 wasn't build up to today's satisfaction. And hence it is time for me to embark on a revamp of geneXis, GeneXis 2.0.

This project GeneXis 2.0 will not be a total major change. But nevertheless internal components will be updated accordingly.

Note that I did not pay full $4091. Most of the fundings that I gotten from was the sales of all my unwanted garage stuffs. Managed to get a good sum of 75% money to fund GeneXis 2.0.

The proposed planned loop diagram

There isn't much of a difference of the loop plan. It is about the same as GeneXis 1.0, but of cause with the exclusion of the top VRMS section that were an extra tubings needed in GeneXis 1.0. GeneXis 2.0 is being cooled by Bitspower Bragi MIX99 Top VRMS.

A day after my birthday, my very first hoot, that day was the most eventful day I ever had. I am the first person to ever get the R9 Fury X in the whole world. Everyone went gaga over my thread, and it went viral on other foreign forums as well as reviewers on YouTube channel.



Overnight, my thread managed to hit 120k viewers in just 1 night. A lot of ups and downs, and I'm very appreciative with all the people whom have supported me. I'm very satisfied that it was one of the best piece of technology I ever bought and being so happy to see forumers in HWZ or even worldwide whom have came in and join in the fun.

For that, the Sapphire R9 Fury X will be in my GeneXis 2.0 and it will be something very personal to me.

30th July 2015

The first Bitspower TW shipment have landed. There is nothing much I can do about it for now as there are more stuffs that I probably need to do before starting the entire project.

This shipment consisted mostly for my motherboard. This waterblock consist of CPU waterblock, VRMS, and chipset cooler.

This AIO motherboard waterblocks helps in saving up fittings. If one uses individual waterblocks without the need of connecting it, one will probably need more fittings.

1st July 2015 - 4th July 2015

This is another event that I could not forget, it is the day I went to find a new motherboard and CPU at SLS. I wanted an all stealth look motherboard, and I could not find one that it is all nice and dark themed mobo. The only one that I wanted was the MSI X99S SLI Plus, and only 1 store at that time has it, and it was Scorpio, definitely overkilled quotation that he have quoted me. Still have the cheek to tell me that it is the cheapest in SLS.

Apart from that, I perceived and went SLS continuously for the next 4 days, mostly on my own, but the last day managed to meet up with mikiberry lol.

Walk around and suddenly, I happened to be at PC Themes, and I saw this black box unwanted at the bottom of PC Themes shelves, I was like so surprised that the MSI X99S SLI Plus was just there, and that moment, I knew that it will be MINE!



Got it at a much cheaper rate than Scorpio. Kudos YL!

Decided to hunt for a new set of DDR4 RAM, nothing interesting, just browsing at Newegg, and found a deal that they had for GSkill Ripjaws 4 4x4gb kit 3000mhz. So decided to grab it instead.

During AMD event on 23rd or 24th cant remember when, Ian from Convergent told me that there is 2 new piece of Fury X just landed at Fuwell. Made me go gaga, and thinking about 4k gaming, and yes, I went on to get the 2nd piece without any doubt.

I took almost a good 1 week just to research on fans and what would probably be the best radiator fans available in market. Sadly there were none that met my expectation of price/performance ratio. At first it was Noctua, but the price locally deters me from buying as it cost a whooping $4x per IPPC fan. So I went onto research mode and actually the best fans that I have not noticed was just in front of me. And that was the Gentle Typhoon fan that is on my 2 Fury X. Its performance, its noise, its effective direct focus air movement was pretty one of the best fans I have to say. Not forgetting that this fans are rated at 3000rpm.

So went on to find where could I get the 3000rpm fans. Also found out that the model used on the Fury X is the AP-29. Which is interesting as all the high rpm Gentle Typhoon fans comes with a rim just near to the fan blades. And it is great that they implemented it. Not only it helps in redirecting the airflow to be more centralised, it is also able to help the fan blades from trying to warp or wobble excessively when in high rpms. Performance was darn consistent and performs way much quieter than Noctuas iPPC fans.

Here is a review that I made myself and I can further conclude that Noctua is just another turbo jet fans.

Finally managed to find only 1 country that has the most stocks and have it readily available. And that is in Thailand/Bangkok.

TK Computer has the most stocks available at 650bhat each. Had them to EMS over to SG. And finally it landed in my house.

A day later, a package from Germany came, and it was the Coolab stuffs that I ordered, it is just to be used on my CPU to the waterblocks that I'm gonna installed.

Decided to start small things like moding all the Gentle Typhoon fans to be PWM enabled, and also furthermore try to sleeve and heatshrink the cables.







26th August 2015

The last batch of Bitspower stuffs have arrived, it was probably the most exciting hoot I ever made. Bitspower did not have any waterblocks for the R9 Fury X. I told Lily from Bitspower 2.5 weeks prior to todays delivery whether will there be any Fury X waterblocks from Bitspower. Lily did mentioned that there were no waterblocks for Fury X, and she said that she could do a new one for me. But it will take a good 2 weeks for them to fabricate it out. And 2 weeks just past and the shipment arrived. Gosh its damn $exy.

Anyway here are the hoots, it contains Fury/X waterblocks, SLI/Xfire water links.



My mind just blew away by how wonderful Bitspower managed to do it.

Took out a Fury X and install my first waterblock, leaving me with only 1 Fury X left for my current usage as X99 do not have any IGPU. So meanwhile before everything arrives, I will be using 1 GPU.

29th August 2015

This is my first shipment from Performance PCs. Have ordered the necessary stuffs, such as a new reservoir, coolant, gasket, tubings, and lastly cable combs.



Extremely beautiful reservoir, and it is damn long. My purpose of having such a long reservoir is because I did not want to extend such a short tubing from the bottom of the reservoir to the pump below, instead I have decided to extend the reservoir longer and use a male to male fitting only.

This will give me a look of a bottomless reservoir, which I kind of like the idea when UV white coolant is put in.

Started to prep things up before the rest of my parts to arrive. Delayed shipment was due to Americas Labour Day. Still waiting for single slot PCIE bracket for my Fury X, a few more other stuffs. Also reorder another Bitspower 2 Slots Xfire/SLI bridge as i decided to push up the 2nd card to the 2nd PCIE instead of the 3rd. This will give a better and neater look. Also due to the fact that with the gpu waterblock it only take up 1 slot. Might as well just make use of the 2nd PCIE slot instead.


Striping the mobos VRM heatsink and also the Chipset heatsink.





Put in the waterblock for VRM, CPU and Chipset.





On top of all the waterblocks is this link bridge, this is to transport coolant through all the other waterblocks (VRMS, CPU and Chipset).




Added the Fury X with waterblock. Gorgeous!

I was actually wondering why does the Chipset cooler has to cover the empty space for PCIE. And found out that it is there due to the fact that it helps to support the GPU from sagging downwards.





The top UT60 radiator is a pain to install. Added a 480mm gasket and managed to mount it up.

Not really stealth, but more towards UV reactive build, it is to be as dark as possible, and when the UV LED shines it will react with the coolant and shows mostly the coolant track.

Theme will be UV white.

Theres no further mods will be done.

Chassis will still be Corsair 900D. Couldnt find a good chassis that will support both 480mm radiator. Although there is 2 which is LD V8 and Caselab Merlin SM8 with ventilated top rack. But i will keep this 2 chassis for future projects.

Layout of digram will still be quite near to GeneXis 1.0. But of cause will upload a diagram up soon. Thanks for that.
