Throwing together a build for a friend. Did about a day's or two of research and came down to these parts:

CPU: Intel i5-6600k
Cooler: Hyper 212X
Mobo: Asus Z170-A
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LED DDR4-2666 16 GB (2x8)
GPU: Zotac 1070 AMP Extreme
Boot Disk: Samsung 960 Evo 256GB
Storage: WD Blue 1 TB
PSU: Corsair RM 650x Gold
Case: Phantom 410 Gunmetal

+

Monitor: AOC I2757FH

The picture is the price as according to one of the stores ion SLS. (before any discussion on price). However, the rig will be paid for using installment (a limitation I have to work around). What do you think? How best to optimize this?

For what use? Why overclocking?

Pcpartspicker pricing don't apply to sg fyi. And new gen out next week. Scrap your mobo and cpu selection

Oh?! Thanks for the heads-up! I am slightly lacking in the news.

Trying to squeeze the most out of the 3k SGD budget we're working around.

However I was not so lacking that I thought the prices were SGD. I custom input all the prices to match the prices from the list from Cybermind. So they ARE sgd prices, but thanks for trying to point that out.

Cyber mind not the best pricing. Best to use pcthemes. And u still haven't explained why u need to overclock. And what this rig is for. And what is the total budget. All this is important in min-maxing.

OK 3k is a healthy budget. But if u need to do it in installments I think the finances are tight? Consider adjusting the budget if so. 2k can build a respectable pc. I got mine under 1.5 with monitor.

  • get a better case, current case is quite old. there are better cases with better designs such as corsair 400c
  • up bootdrive to 500gb at least. no longer acceptable to have 250gb in year 2016. preferably a m2 ssd to reduce clutter.
  • remove optical drive if possible. reduces cable clutter and its seldom used nowadays.
  • can reduce wattage to save a little.

if you can wait. zen announcement soon.

Oh i love pc theme. But they don't do installments. And the budget without installment is a broke-as-hell 900 dollars. I, too, built my own pc from many different stores and prefer pc theme over the rest.

Hmm. The Phantom 410 was picked by the buyer, and is more for aesthetics than function. Nevertheless, worthwhile to consider your case.

The 960 EVO IS NVMe m2 card so.........

Also can you elaborate why 256 is no longer enough in 2016 (going onto 2017)?

similar to my build.

Cool man. When did you build this?

sorry, didnt see properly that you put m2. as for 256, nowadays lots of games fill fast. eg forza horizon is 50gb~, bf1 42gb~, titanfall 42gb. as for asethtics wise, the nzxt is a bit too boy racer and usually dont fit with deco if thats part of the consideration, i do know its a personal preference so go ahead if the buyer likes it.

i still wonder if u can ask your client to save up the money so that can fit into his budget of getting a pc without paying installment

and next whats the usage on this pc? if purely for gaming can replace some cheaper parts for the usage.

overall i still think that u should ask him to come up with an upfront max budget he is able to fork out. if really the amt isnt feasiable, ask him to wait for kabylake out and hope that there is a huge price gap between skylake and kabylake, and just buy skylake.

Better to get 850 Evo 500gb over the 960 Evo 256. Speed improvement is barely noticeable unless you just want the newest. Even then, standard sata ssd also fast enough.

Then he has serious budget issues. Don't do installments seriously. cannot afford don't buy.

A lot of component choices seem to be going extravagant imo. You also haven't specified the usage scenarios for the PC.
If financing is an issue go for cost effective hardware options.

Don't bother getting 960 SSD, just get a normal SATA sized or if u really want to save space then get other SSD but m.2 size, there was a video shared by a bro, there's no difference in real world speeds between nvme m.2 and SATA3 SSD, me also one of those carrot, buy 950 pro to upgrade from 840evo, but end up no difference :s13:

Being a Phantom 410 Gunmetal owner myself, my advice is not to go for that case. That case is so...2012 (yes it was the cool case back then). The case looks nice for first few weeks, then the flaws start showing. I basically DIY an acrylic full side panel coz the small little side panel window looked so ugly. Then the problem with lack of fan filters at the top, bottom and side of the case will start showing when dust accumulates inside the case. Even the front "dust filter" is for show. To add on, case is very bulky and heavy. To shift this full tower case disguised as a mid tower case requires strength. For more modern casings, I would recommend the Corsair and Phanteks casing lineups. Much better in terms of ergonomics and aesthetics.
