Nice build, but I feel u can change some aspects....

Graphics card, dont really need to have gtx 1070 amp edition to game on a 1080p monitor. Can just get gtx 1060 for a much lower price. You wont really see any major performance difference unless u using 4k monitor or something.

And monitor, can definitely find a better and cheaper 1080p 27inch 60hz monitor. Qoo10 has a lot of $200++ monitor of that range, plus u can discount it further with coupons

ooooh, okay! I will definitely consider the qoo10 route. However, the buyer is the one who bound himself to installment scheme so I'm not sure how much I can affect that decision. I guess I will inform him about the probably benefits of buying outright but hey, it's his money.

Being a Phantom 410 Gunmetal owner myself, my advice is not to go for that case. That case is so...2012 (yes it was the cool case back then). The case looks nice for first few weeks, then the flaws start showing. I basically DIY an acrylic full side panel coz the small little side panel window looked so ugly. Then the problem with lack of fan filters at the top, bottom and side of the case will start showing when dust accumulates inside the case. Even the front "dust filter" is for show. To add on, case is very bulky and heavy. To shift this full tower case disguised as a mid tower case requires strength. For more modern casings, I would recommend the Corsair and Phanteks casing lineups. Much better in terms of ergonomics and aesthetics.

I think the buyer actually likes bulky and heavy! Nevertheless, if we do buy I will ask if he can come down to view the case once through to ensure that he likes the design. At the current moment, it's aesthetics first for the case, functionality second. I, too, want one of those sexy 600c cases man.

Don't bother getting 960 SSD, just get a normal SATA sized or if u really want to save space then get other SSD but m.2 size, there was a video shared by a bro, there's no difference in real world speeds between nvme m.2 and SATA3 SSD, me also one of those carrot, buy 950 pro to upgrade from 840evo, but end up no difference :s13:
Better to get 850 Evo 500gb over the 960 Evo 256. Speed improvement is barely noticeable unless you just want the newest. Even then, standard sata ssd also fast enough.

Ah I was considering NVMe due to the cutting edge tech, but I guess I'll just go for an 850, then consider the m.2 upgrade in the future. Apparently most of everyone thinks the same unless I'm going all out spend everything.

A lot of component choices seem to be going extravagant imo. You also haven't specified the usage scenarios for the PC.
If financing is an issue go for cost effective hardware options.

He wants the PC to be able to handle everything he throws at it, and has a budget of 3k. As mentioned, I will advise him with rewards to budget but if there's no choice I will still go ahead with the installment decision due to the fact that his current laptop is very rapidly breaking down.

sorry, didnt see properly that you put m2. as for 256, nowadays lots of games fill fast. eg forza horizon is 50gb~, bf1 42gb~, titanfall 42gb. as for asethtics wise, the nzxt is a bit too boy racer and usually dont fit with deco if thats part of the consideration, i do know its a personal preference so go ahead if the buyer likes it.

Yeah that makes sense. He seems to be the type of gamer who just wants to try out stuff and really not worry about whether his PC can handle it, and just install and it works straight away. However, He's also been surviving on an Alienware with 500GB storage, also relying on his 3TB of cloud storage for other files. I'll probably default back to the 850 for SSD storage though!

Since have budget issue, save for another month while waiting for amd zen and Intel kabylake. Then we can discuss again on the specs worth your while and budget

i still wonder if u can ask your client to save up the money so that can fit into his budget of getting a pc without paying installment

and next whats the usage on this pc? if purely for gaming can replace some cheaper parts for the usage.

overall i still think that u should ask him to come up with an upfront max budget he is able to fork out. if really the amt isnt feasiable, ask him to wait for kabylake out and hope that there is a huge price gap between skylake and kabylake, and just buy skylake.
Wah. I don't know if he can wait that one month. We'll see. He's already chosen a terrible time to build, considering we are now into the new year already. I only hope stores have good sales due to the end of the fiscal year approaching.

If he needs to pay by installments, that budget is null. Don't buy what he cannot afford.

lol den like this ask him to buy from aftershock. i think they might run some sales event near CNY period. and u can check with them if they accept installment plans or not.

let him read this forum thread ....

better to save on unnecessary "aesthetics" if paying on installment ... to shorten the repayment period or reduce monthly payment

New revised build after taking some of the opinions of forum users:

CPU: i5-6500
Mobo: Asus B150A/m.2
CPU Cooler: Hyper 212
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8)
Storage: 525 GB MX300 Crucial SSD
GPU: Zotac 1060 AMP Ed (Just for the 6gb and backplate)
PSU: Corsair RM650X
Case: NZXT Phantom 410

+

Monitor: Dell U2417H

Prices revised to reflect in SGD

I have 3 main questions:

1) should i consider sticking to 6600K and z170 for future proofing? (the ability to overclock in the future for addition performance)

2) should i consider going to i7 6700? (also for future proofing, but not much editing and rendering will be done so i don't think this is necessary, just asking)

3) will a 1070 outlast a 1060 in terms or staying relevant? (the answer is yes but is it worth to get it now)

3) yes. if u ask me i rather u get a budget 1070 than that 1060 amp edition. the 100 difference is worth it.

Thanks for the heads up.

Quick question: If buyer is currently using a 2012 Alienware laptop, what are the chances that I take his OS and use it on the New pc?

1070 outperforms 1060 by a mile.
1070 can probably run games up to end 2017 at highest settings (that's what nvidia developed their cards for), however post 2018 you will still be running games at med-high settings which is no problem also.

1060 probably can run you games currently at highest, but as 2017 games are released 1060 will have been bottlenecked due to graphic card memory and also raw GPU power.

Last but not least, the price also quite big jump and is relative to its strength. 1070 is priced at $700 and 1060 at around $450-$500 range. With some good online discounts previously, the prices can go down $100-$200.

=...= Those discounts are something I will be hard-pressed to take advantage of. But anyhow, thanks for the heads up!!
