Hi, my current motherboard is dead. Only the fan and lights are on, but monitor, mouse and keyboard don't have power it seems. Tried to troubleshoot but to no avail. It's kinda old already, I guess. A few years, maybe. So I intend to build a new system but I'm reusing some parts.

The purpose of this PC is to play games and do work assignments. So I don't really need that great a graphics card BUT if can have dual monitor input, it'd be great as I have 2 monitors at home to use.

My budget is about $600-800, preferably $700ish. What I may not need would be:
1. Casing (I'm currently using a Cooler Master Elite310)
2. Monitor and accessories (using LG Flatron)
3. DVD RW (using LG)
4. Soundcard and speakers (I'm happy with onboard sound cards as I don't have good speakers)

What I need would be:
1. Graphics card (hopefully with dual DVI input as I have 2 monitors)
2. Mobo + CPU
3. RAMs (looking at about 4GB?)
4. 1TB HDD (I'm running out of space due to assignments and etc, so I'll need a bigger one)
5. PSU (unsure if the old one can be used by just as a precaution, I decide to throw this in)
6. Win10 OS
7. Anything I might be missing out?

Summary:
Budget: $600-800
Purpose: Assignments and occasion games playing (Far Cry 4 on mid settings, DOTA 2, Fallout 4 on mid settings)

Do advice. Planning to make a trip to Sim Lim in the late afternoon once I have finalised the list and etc. Thanks in advance!

Yes, one piece of advice is, do you plan to buy all the parts at once or do you intend to buy it piece by piece over the course of one month?

Because different parts go on sale on different days. If you buy all one shot it will be more expensive.

All at one shot, wwenze. Cause I just wanna bring the list down to a shop and have them fix for me.

Basically I need the whole PC and the OS. No need for mouse, keyboard and monitorsx2 as I have those.

$1,000 is comfortable for me, harharhar.

Thanks Zreo, are there any other configurations around the price of 800-1k?

I realised I may need casing and I also need the Win10 OS CD...

If your PSU is 80+ then no worries can still use, I suggest getting RAM 2nd hand as it's kinda cheap and lifetime warranty. Get 8GB, I think only $40~$50 for 4GBX2. GPU would suggest 280x? If want can get 2nd hand with warranty left. Mobo best to get ASRock and a locked i5 would do. HDD 1TB would cost you at 50~70? Choose wisely bro, all the best. btw OS I think can get $20~$30 online legit one. Stick to windows 7, windows 10 is really a headache.

Yeah, hated the Win10 UI but I figured if I am upgrading might as well, maybe I will stick to Win7 then. But online...? But shops don't usually sell 2nd hand and I have to assemble myself so I doubt that'd work out well.

What other stuff do you recommend, Valkyire? And thanks for all the suggestions so far!

Except that there were certain parts I wasn't able to get so some parts changed but pretty much around this.

I'm still looking through all the customization listed here and contemplating quite a few factors. I'm not good with assembling it myself and with my computer dead, I am out of resources and would have to rely on my laptop for anything else. So I'd rather take it to a shop and have them assemble it for me even if I have to fork out a bit more.

So which parts did you changed out? Are you very certain the motherboard is dead?
