Building a DIY PC

Hi all,

I would like to build a new pc for myself, with monitor and it will mainly be for gaming (CSGO, Overwatch) and other normal stuff like watching videos/surfing the web. So I went online and came up with a rough idea of what i want to build and was wondering if can get this for abt $1.5k-$1.6k (including getting from Amazon etc)

CPU: i5-7600k 3.8GHz
CPU cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO
Motherboard: Asus Prime Z270-A
Video Card: Asus - GeForce GTX 1060 3GB Dual Video Card
RAM: Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000MHz
Main Storage: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB
Secondary Storage: WD Blue 1TB/2TB (can get later)
Power Supply: EVGA - SuperNOVA G2 550W Gold
Wireless Network Adapter: TP-Link - Archer T6E AC1300 PCI-Express x1 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi Adapter
Case: Corsair 300R
Case Fan: 1 or 2x Corsair Air Series AF140 Quiet Edition Single Fan
Monitor: Acer - GN246HL 24.0" 1920x1080 144Hz Monitor


Im new to this so I appreciate any advice given! Again just wondering if can fit this into 1.5k-1.6k budget, if not then how much u think it would cost. And if you guys feel there are any better parts can replace in this list. Thank you!!

IMO, the ability to overclock is not so important.. u could go for a b250 board with a i5 7500 and use the excess to get a better GPU? Maybe a 1060 6gb.. also it comes with stock heatsink so you won’t need to get an aftermarket cooler.

Wireless card you can actually just get an on board wifi such as the MSI h110i.. helps u to save some costs too so you can focus on other parts.

A rough estimation from dynacore pricelist alone goes up to about 1.8k SGD.
I suppose purchasing some parts from other avenues will bring this down quite a bit. Buying off SLS and bargaining is also an option, which may (repeat MAAAAAYYYY) reduce the cost.

Anyways, some comments on your choice of parts.
- CPU & Mobo: Consider AMD options if you don't mind, reason being that with Kaby Lake, upgrading options are very limited, while AM4 (AMD side of things) will not be replaced until 2020, giving you a nice upgrade path for CPU. Plus, AMD stocks are waaaaay higher than Coffee Lake. (Credit: PaulHardware).

If you still want Kaby Lake goods, then will you intend to overclock? If overclocking is not in your cards, I'd suggest going with i5 7500 and a H270 board. If it is, you might need to consider higher PSU wattage (more $$$) and more fans/AIO (WUUTTT MORE $$$?!?!?!?!)

- GPU: If you want a 1060 gfx, just get the cheapest 6gb one, such as msi or zotac. Reason being, they don't really matter all that much, and 6gb is 370ish anyways so why not.

- Ram: Consider getting a 2x4gb memory for now, because dem memory prices are bloody expensive. It'll work well with CS:GO and DOTAII (and its pirated version LOL....JOKES) and probably function okay with PUBG. Upgrades can be done later

Other than that, your list look goooood.

Gtx 1060 can also consider the Galax 6gb variant. Responses for the card seems good for now, quality seems solid too. But hard to say a year for now.. IIRC zotac’s extended warranty involves overseas RMA and not 1-1 exchange (if they have stock) but local distro will cover for you, just that u won’t have the GPU available for use

I wasnt sure if the 1060 6GB was worth it cos it currently cost about 80 to 100 USD more than the 3GB version.. Anyway is the wireless on board the motherboard better? I read online somewhere they say add on wireless card is better haha

haha i planned to overclock but i didnt think about the wattage required err you would suggest getting how much wattage for overclocking ahh thx!!

@hwzSenpai your time to shine. i know nothing about overclocking except that one makes the clock go fasterrrrrrrr.

As one who wanna try overclocking, I'd probably go for a quality PSU (80+ gold from reputable brand) with at least 750W (for this build) and some serious cooling. Overclocking chews power in a non-linear manner so perhaps having a good amount of headroom will be safe

Agree on this

The ability to overclock now is over-rated because if one adds the cost of the additional components into the picture, it might be more worthwhile to buy a higher end CPU / GPU
If one is a closet overclocker, just stay stock
But if one intends to play around, treat the additional cost of the cooling components as part and parcel of the school fees..

A budget of 1.5-1.6K can get one a system WITH a monitor.

Going by Infinity Pricelist ( coz if anything wrong, they won't shirk responsibility. Impt if you are new to DIY )

Asus Mobo + I5-7600K = $500 - $550
16gb Ram = $230
PSU = $80 Plenty of sub $100 choices below 600W
GTX1060 = $300 for 3gb or $400 for 6gb
Casing = $100 Choose one that you like
SSD 256gb = $150
HDD 2TB = $100

TOTAL = $1510

System alone is around your 1.6K budget
If you want to add in a monitor and still be within the 1.6K budget
Either
1. Remove the 2TB HDD; OR
2. Look at a used system

For CSGO, your primary requirement should be 1ms response time.
144hz is secondary coz you will need a higher end gfx to properly drive the 144hz for mored demanding games.
CSGO will get you between 130 - 255 fps on a GTX10603gb. It works well with the 144hz monitor
Go to Overwatch and the fps may drop below 144
Go to PUBG and it drops significantly

You are better off saving on the processor side so you can bump up the GPU side as the GPU handles more of the heavy workload now.

For a 1.6K budget, you ought to be able to achieve this with monitor with hdd if you go the 2nd hand route. Look hard enough and you may be able to fit in a decent gaming keyboard and headset ( Desktop + Monitor + Keyboard + Mouse + Headset ) for $1600
