Building a New Desktop

Hi All Gurus and Bros,

Recently my pc died on me and i kinda giving up on troubleshooting it (tried taking out everything and left with mobo, igpu and psu only and still it wont resolve. it keeps on and off in split second repeatedly until i unplug the power cord).

I've taken interest in aftershock onsite warranty and following spec:

1. If you want to OC in future, K version has an unlocked multiplier making it easier. But I think the B360 motherboard does not offer you any O/C options. I might be wrong but last I remembered it does not allow overclocking. In that case, get the normal non-K version and save the money.

2) Get at least 3,000Mhz is my recommendation. 2,666Mhz on a 8700k is workable but not optimal.

3) If no OC, more than enough. Cryorig are good coolers. If wanna O/C, I would highly suggest delidding under air cooling.

You might want a better cooler. I don't think the Cryorig C7 is going to cut it.

while waiting for black friday for deals and incoming rtx and intel 9th gen, any bros here able to recommend reputable pc assembler (parts by me)?

aside from that, those unique cable for desktop normally get from cablemod? any good recommendation for all the cable?

Some comments

1) What's your monitor? GTX 1080 Ti suitable if 144hz 1440p, or 4k 60hz. Else it's overkill for 1080p.

2) PSU 860W overkill also. If can save costs get a 650W one. Use TDP calculator to see actual wattage used.

3) 970 Evo NVMe SSD only has difference with 860 Evo in real life use if regularly transferring large files with hundred GBs. Can shave off a few dollars here

4) 16 GB RAM more than enough if only used for gaming, multitasking, web surfing. Unless you're running VMs or video editing etc

5) As someone else has said, for intel very little difference between 2400 and 3000 Mhz speed RAM. 2666 Mhz is fine

Where did you find the price of the GPU from? Couldn't find retailers selling the EVGA 1080Ti FTW3 in SG.

i do some minor photo editing using lightroom. my current pc also 16gb ram...and opening up 10+ ram seems to make the pc lag...but not sure its due to that.

- 144hz 1440p. having some problem even using zotac 1080ti extreme core edition now. not sure its due to cpu bottleneck or not

650W enough? i need it futureproof for like...5 6 years...and everytime i will sell my current gpu for newer 1 if its worth it.

still prefer at least 1 NVMe SSD inside for operating system and main game. heard that it is fast

currently amazon prime now selling evga founder edition at 987++...but read somewhere in hwz says taht its actually ftw3

If budget allow, Corsair ML-series fans are pretty good. Alternatively, you can get some Noctua A12/P12 from Cybermind. Also, you can get Be Quiet! Silent Wings 120mm from Amazon/Newegg.

But those are above your $20 per fan budget unless there's online sales or whatever to discount the price for you.

The new Noctua NF-A12x25 is one of the best 120mm fan right now, it has a good balance of static pressure, airflow and noise.

btw, any recommendation for custom cable sleeves? looking for long term usage of the cable sleeve..mostly for PSU to mobo, gpu and storage
