Building a new gaming rig

Hi guys,

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to setting up my own system and i would appreciate some help with it! Below is a list that a friend of mine has given me, what do you guys think?

The games im looking to be able to play smoothly are SC2, GW2, and FF14 for now. I would also preferably like to stay under 1.2k but if justified, can go higher.

CPU/mobo: i5-4670 + asus z87-k ~$456
PSU: Corsair TX650 ~$129
RAM: 8GB G-Skill RipJaws 1600Mhz CL9 ~$94
GPU: Radeon HD7870 ~ $339
HDD: WD Caviar Black 500gb ~$99
+Case +OS

I don't know why your friend quote you such expensive stuffs lol.

First thing, you don't need an Overclock setup.

And for 1.2k you probably cant fit in an Asus board with a overclock cpu.

So here is for a 1.2k gaming needs.

Plextor M5s 128gb SSD ~ $139
Palit Gtx760 2gb Jetstream + FSP Aurum 550W Platinum ~ $399

Total $1208 Build at tradepac. Bargain further to lower the cost.

1TB blue is less than $20 away only? i think should get 1TB one more worth it bah. nowadays all hd movies. very fast use up.

hmmm im not too familiar with overclocking. he did mention to get a good board for future proofing though, is the setup you recommended relatively future proof??

Crap.

Yes I recommend you to get the gtx760 better than the 7870 he recommended.

Next is the mobo. They come in b h or z series. If you dont intend to connect multiple satas then just get the b series.

Nowadays mobo is more on what you want and next is brand preference. Asus is more for premium boards. Their boards are expensive. Not because of future proof etc. Its the same as other boards. Unless you wanna buy asus atas board that cost you almost 500 to 700.

More importantly is the gfx card for your gaming needs. Thats why the gtx 760 is beter for you yet able to play new titles on 1080p.

Future CPUs will be based on LGA 1150 I believe. So if u wanna upgrade CPU in future, most prob need not buy a new board.

However, tech move so fast.. In a few years time, maybe new CPU n mobos with new tech.

So, kinda pointless not to change the rig if ya the type to use it for 3 to 5 years.
