Building a new gaming rig

Hi guys! A good friend of mine is looking to upgrade his computer and main use is more for gaming. Budget would be at about 1.5k

Current specs are as follow:
i7 950+ Asus sabertooth x58
CM Hyper 212+ CPU Cooler
MSI 6790 2GB
Samsung 1TB
HP DVD Rewriter
Seasonic m12II 620 Bronze 620W PSU
CM 912 case

Already bought the following and planning from amazon during Black Friday:
1) Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB Kit (8GBx2) 240-Pin DDR3 1866 MT/s (PC3-14900) CL9
2) Samsung 840 EVO Series 250GB

Wondering what can has to be replaced (Don't think the new rams work with the old mobo?) and what can be reused (Like the old 1TB HDD and Optical drive). Pretty sure the CPU and Mobo has to go along with the gfx card.

^Budget doesn't require monitor, OS or anything else. Just the hardware within the computer case

280x range from $420-520 ~ but now SLS quite low stock

He is considering future proofing it the entire rig now for the next 3 years at least as he got the new parts from amazon, unlike some hardware enthusits here buy/sell every now and then, he is looking to 1 time upgrade all components that's why considering the newer technology of motherboard and processor

with that card it could last him another two years
and by then he would have access to even better technology by intel/amd

and DDR 4 might be released next year
so frankly speaking, it's better to wait

but then again it's your friend's choice

Not possible, Intel already announced it will debut on the mainstream market with Braswell (what a name ) starting in 2015.
