Building a new pc suggestions

Hi guys, i'm really keen on building or at least buying my own pc rather then buying from like Acer, dell Asus or even alienware. I'm not sure if I should buy the parts separately or just buy all the parts from one shop like mynextcomonline.com and ask them to assemble for me.
My budget is about 1.5k-1.7k just the CPU, no monitor keyboard and w/e.
Now, I've been reading a lot and browsing through the forums quite abit, i'm actually wondering why are people choosing the GTX770 over the R9 290?
And if I actually want either a GTX770 or R9 290(not R9 290x) how much would the total roughly cost?
I'd like my pc the last quite a while or even my last PC in a long while...
All suggestions are appreciated.

PS:I'd like to prepare for next gen games like watch dogs, titanfall, BF4 and am planning to play only at 1080p in like max settings.
Also if the budget is a little tight, can like increase if its worth to fit a GTX770 or a R9 290

R9 290 is better than the gtx770. Just that some people are not comfortable with the heat output for the r9 290. Gtx 770 on the other hand is r9 280x comparable.

And since you are going for a 1080p gaming. A single r9 280x or a gtx770 is enough

R9 290 and the gtx780 is good for people whom wanna go for a higer resolution. Something like 1440p at 60hz.

And to compare gtx770 or r9 280x i will go for the r9 280x. It isnt based on the new hawaii chip like the r9 290 or 290x. So the heat output is much lesser. Price point is also cheaper against the gtx770. Not unless you look at brands like zotac gtx770. Also take note of the vram. 3gb vs 2gb although gtx770 has 4gb options.

Thanks for your reply roy, so is it R9 290 is a little redundant for 1920 x 1080 gaming? cause I really want my games to be smooth all the time with like maxed out settings. And could you explain a little more about the zotac gtx770? Is Msi r9 280x 3gb twin frozr one of the better r9 280x as well? Because from my pov, the R9 290 is like the same price as the GTX770(In Singapore) and even if its as little as a 5 frame increase I wouldn't mind spending that extra buck.

Easily. A r9 280x or the 770 will max out everything in the current games. Not unless there is one game in the market that will bring all gpus down their knees is Crysis 3.

If you feel that you wanna have more horsepower of cause look no further than the r9 290. It will be better than the gtx770. Is a one tier higher gpu. Only if you feel comfortable of the heat output temps of 85-87deg using either msi or gigabyte. It will probably give you more fps rate.

But do take note. On higher fps your monitor if it is just 60hz you are most probably gonna see screen tearing issues if you go above 120fps. In fact 110fps you can start to see screen tearing.

To game smoothly got to look at your monitor refreshing rate.

On top of that whether the gpu could push for 120fps.

60hz vs 120hz. It is fluid smooth on 120hz.

R9 280x and gtx770 on most games will easily give you a decent fps rate above 60fps on a 1080p monitor with max settings. Go look at some benchmarks.

At the top, go to price list download, download pc theme pricelist and compare...

He uses 290 coz of his res at 1440p. I use 290 coz of my 1080p at 120hz.

You can check the price list. Usually 290 is around 619- (as high as) 730 depending on brands.

I do not know where you see the benchmarks. But from what i know it is slightly better over the 770.

It looks like most games, 280x gets a few frames more than the 770. But when the 770 is getting more fps, its like 10fps higher than the 280x.
I would still choose 280x over 770 though. That few games and few fps increase is not significant enough to justify the extra $100

I've decided to get the gtx770 for serveral reasons, with the setup previously mentioned by roy, can i just change the r9 280x for gtx770? if so, which gtx770 should i get?

lols bro no matter what GPU you buy, how good it is, you can't expect it to run smooth at all time with maxed out settings. For eg, in Batman Arkham origin, I was running it on a 290, 1080p, the frame rate was smooth at most time on max settings, but when i reached a particular area (penguin ship), the frame suddenly dropped from 70 or 80 plus to 20 plus. This is cause of the insane amount of lighting effects in that map, thats why don't expect that when you buy the most ex gpu you can play smoothly throughout the whole game. Some parts will still lag. But for 1080p, 280x or 770 should be enough for 80 to 90% of the time ba...

Zotac 770 lor... cheapest 770 yet with 5 yrs warranty.

Also, gotta reconsider your ssd since m500 240gb OOS in amazon le. Next choice is samsung evo 250gb.

bearing in mind the overclockability, heat and lifespan of these cards and their power consumption.
People would use this components for a long time. Doubt there is any room for overclocking an AMD card without a liquid cooler. AMD is known for its high factory clockspeed, high power and heat output. something to consider when looking at your electric bills. hmmmm.. that $100 you spend earlier might make a difference in the long run.. what do you think?

100 more watts isn't going to increase your electricity bill much. If u run it 10 hours per day on max load, it will only cost u 20cents more per day to run the amd gpu.
Thats 6 dollars a month. Nothing significant.
btw, the r9 280x has a 20w higher tdp than the gtx 770.
Thats $1.20 a MONTH

lols sekali TS like me... go buy high end GPU like 290, then end up never game much lols. My com literally sitting there becoming a HTPC with a high end card, thats why electric bills never move at all.
