Building a pc on a budget.

Hello people,

I am new to diy PCs but have learnt so much just by coming in here. I'm currently looking to build a new pc from scratch with a budget of $1.5k - $1.6k and did a few research but after noting down my choices and adding up the cost. It costs me over $2k

I hope you guys will be able to advice me on any alternatives to the ones i have chosen so far. I mainly need the pc for Adobe premier pro, photoshop, after effects and the occasional gamings..

Here's my list so far and I'm not sure if there are any better alternatives to them as I'm really new here. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Motherboard: AMD X470 M7 AC
CPU:Ryzen 2600 ($279. I found a seller that sells the motherboard in a package deal at $759)
Graphics: MSI GTX 1070 8gb ($439)
Ram:Cosair Vengeance LPX 16gb ($159)
SSD (OS):Western Digital Blue ($68)
HDD (Games):Seagate Firecuda 1tb ($117)
Casing:Cooler Master MasterBox MB510L ($79)
OS: Windows 10 (I'm guessing it costs around $30?)
PSU: EVGA supernova 650w ($159)
Monitor: Dell SE2417HG 24 Gaming Monitor With 2 HDMI Ports ($149)

Total Dmg: $1959 (excluding the mouse and keyboard)


Any thoughts? Too overkill for my needs? Recommendations more than welcomed.

MB - overkill, a $150 to $200 MB will do just fine.

RAM - 32GB for Photoshop etc

SSD - At current SSD prices, I would suggest the Samsung 860 evo 1 TB at S$225 and drop the HDD since your storage needs are not high.

Don't need onboard wifi = get MSI b450 tomahawk
Need onboard wifi = get MSI b450 gaming pro carbon ac

This is assuming you want a good motherboard for overclocking because these b450 mobos have more/better power phase and vrm heatsinks worthy of x470 tier mobos, if not can go for cheaper ones if running at stock.

ddr4 ram make sure you get dual sticks instead of single stick (eg. 2x8gb instead of 1x16gb) and get 3000mhz/3200mhz ones (preferably on motherboard memory QVL list -- can see on their website). See whether you want 2x8gb or 2x16gb.

You picked a SSHD for your HDD, change to a regular HDD instead. $11x can get 3TB.

And also for the $52 250gb wd ssd the other guy suggested, that pricing is probably a dramless wd green. Other than endurance running out quicker, under load the ssd speed will choke also. I'll suggest 250gb/500gb samsung evo 860 if it's within your budget.

The $759 cpu/mobo combo you listed is overpriced, $6xx can get. But that's not the issue, the 2 MSI mobo I suggested is much better value for money while being the best in class b450 mobos that can match x470 mobos.





Edit: ignore those ppl who tell you to ignore pms. Don't assume ppl all DIY PC builders looking to make quick bucks. Not everyone building PCs to sell other ppl. Time to time ppl clearing BNIB local warranty sealed item or used items with receipt they don't need anymore at lower price than they got it for coz make changes to builds. You get extra price option to compare against your own researched pricing and you can get whichever is cheaper which benefits you. Removed message to check pm as sold off my ryzen 2600x + 2x8gb 3200mhz cl16 rgb ddr4 ram both local sealed set bundled for $465 to another bro on hwz.

Go for MSI b450 mobo instead, the x470 really isn’t needed. Ram can opt for Klevv bolt 3200mhz rams. Storage options really depends but the Samsung 1tb SSD is pretty damn attractive honestly. HDD can just go for a Toshiba or WD blue 1tb. 2x for raid 1 redundancy. GPU wise which model are you looking at? MSI has various 1070 models. Check for GPU clearance for case though the master box is pretty spacious already. Double check to be safe. PSU can also consider the EVGA G3 650W. KB there is the tecware phantom, good to consider on Budget.

Edit: and yes ignore people that PM. Ownself source usually end up cheaper and warranty begins only at point of purchase (with receipt). Done that know that, best to avoid.

Just get a 2700 with B450. S$5XX can get.

1tb HDD wd blue - 56 (unsure why u picked SSHD in your initial build, If need then pick the SSHD)

Total will be 1335 without monitor. add your monitor also 1484.

Difference between my parts and your parts would be i chose a B450 board with wifi instead of your x470 board. I also picked 3200mhz ram which would be better than your 2666mhz(i assume due to pricing) ram. Ryzen 'generally' runs better on faster ram.

I also picked a cheaper PSU but only due to budget. If you feel the 60 dollars is worth the extra 50w and the gold rating then you can stick to the EVGA.

On a side note. i noticed that you choose a SE2417HG, which is a TN panel i think, generally TN panel colour reproduction is not that good.

I would recommend you to take a look at the Acer SA270A IPS Led Monitor which costs around 209 sgd. A 60 dollar upgrade for a 27 inch 1080P plus ips is quite worth it.

Wow! Thanks for the feedback! Yes it seems like from all the replies here i should follow the bros advice and get a 450 instead. I initially wanted a better monitor but my budget was cut out by the rest so I thought since I need better processing speed than display, get a cheaper gaming monitor. Thanks for the alternatives. Will check out the monitor you mentioned..

Thanks for the reply, I was also thinking if it's too overkill for my current needs but the articles online were all saying that MB and ram are really important if i wanna do video rendering.

And upgrade your graphic card to 2060

I was at JB city square mall today and the tech guy was saying the same thing! He said that the 2060 would be better than the 1070 at a slight difference in price although I'm not sure how much would it be since they didn't carry it.
