Building gaming pc - Need advice

Hi all, I'm building a new gaming PC. I intend to play games such as Fortnite, Overwatch, Tomb Raider & Guild Wars 2 ec. My Budget is $1500. Any advice regarding this build?

- AMD Ryzen 5 2600X ($475 Tradepac)
- Asus TUF B450-Plus Gaming (bundled)
- KLEVV Bolt 2666MHZ CL16, 8GB x 2pcs ($230 PC Themes)
- LITEON MU3 240GB SSD ($69 PC Themes)
- Toshiba 1TB HDD ($52 Tradepac)
- Sapphire RTX580 8GB ($399 including Free Gaming Bundle, Convergent)
- Andyson 650W PSU (re-use)
- Casing ???
- Monitor ??? (I'm using a very old Samsung 22" LCD screen, 1920 x 1080, 60hz)

Total: $1225


I have some questions

1) I7-8700K VS Ryzen 2600X. Any recommendations? From what I read, Ryzen seems more value for money, for a slight dip in performance.

2) I read that some Ryzen users suffer from heat issues in their pc. If I get Ryzen, should I invest in an additional fan? E.g. ID Cooling Frost flow +120 ($58 PC Themes)

3) Is it worth spending a little more for 3000mhz/3200mhz ram sticks for Ryzen 2600x? I don't overclock.

4) Sapphire RTX580 8GB ($399 + Gaming Bundle, Convergent) vs Galax GTX1060 6GB OC ($389 PC Themes). Any recommendations? They seem close in performance.

1. Get from the same shop. Better prices if you get all from PC Themes.

2. Asus TUF is not good. Get an Asrock instead.

3. GPU, better to get 1060 6gb.

4. Andyson PSU -> I don't trust this.

5. You heard of heat issues with Ryzen? TDP and power usage are lower than Intel, so please list your sources otherwise it's just ignorant rumor.

6. If Ryzen, get faster RAM. Remember to enable the faster speeds in BIOS.

1. 8700K is a big notch improvement vs 2600X pls. The price gap got reason with your budget range, go for 2600X ba. No point forking out more for CPU only and downgrade everything.

2. Ryzen suffering from heat? Where did you read that? Try the 8700K without delid, then compare to Ryzen and see. Also, delid void warranty. The only reason Ryzen can overheat, is an inadequate OC by the user.

3. Yes, worth spending a tad bit more for 3000mhz and up. No OC nvm, since you're getting 2600X anyway. With higher speed RAM, remember go into BIOS and activate the XMP for the RAM to run at higher speed as per intended.

4. Sapphire deal looks sweeter.

Get a new PSU pls. Superflower Leadex ECO Silver 500/600W is good for within $100

Casing up to you. For budget, I always recommend getting Fractal Design Focus G for $75

Monitor reuse until it breaks down.

Get everything from PC Themes as suggested above. Bargain it down a bit to match Tradepac price

Thanks everyone for your advice. I will likely get Ryzen 2600X.

One final question. Any recommendation on the brand/model of motherboard? There's so many diff models for each brand. I'm considering:
- MSI B450 Gaming Plus ($476)
- Asrock B450 Pro4 ($473)
- Gigabyte AORUS B450 PRO M ($474)

I know it's not relevant, but since you bring up TDP, do you know AMD and Intel TDP are not comparable?

AMD's TDP is close to the electrical maximum a CPU can draw (when it is operating at its maximum voltage).

Intel's TDP is a "round up" average of power measurements of processor intensive benchmarks.

When it comes to TDP, ,it's pretty confusing about the way TDP is measure from both party. So we should just ignore this completely.

Confusing, not user friendly. Slow updates. Run at higher vcore than other brands at stock settings. Inefficient vrm heatsink design. Fake vrm phase count (refer buildzoid).

The bios is much more polished.

Not all lar, but some models are pretty well built. Do some research and buy the right one. No regrets.

MSI is also confusing, but not as badly as Gigabyte. Asrock still uses something similar to the old Asus, so I can accept that as well.

MSI is OK or maybe I'm just used to it. The BIOS on my Gigabyte Z370 Aorus Gaming 7 was really complicated indeed.

But asus is always way more expensive than gigabyte

For example asus is selling 419 for their z390 itx but gigabyte is selling the equivalent for 279. That's 140 extra.

Sigh... Limited choices for itx boards.

I only see gigabyte, msi and asus z390 itx boards locally. I don't see asrock itx board locally, i think tech dynamic didn't bother to bring them in.

Msi components on a z390 itx looks sub par compared to the rest of the brands.
