Building HTPC from current rig

My current rig is going unstable with frequent BSOD or random reboot. I suspect it is my mobo or ram having problem because re-seatting the ram often solve the problem. As tis is a 6-7 year old rig, i was tinking if i can replace the mobo and make it become a HTPC to play video and surf net on my TV. Will also be buying a new rig to replace tis. Any recommendation for the HTPC build and new rig build? New rig mostly for surfing, streaming video, occassional video/picture editing and casual gaming like DOTA2.

Your mobo is the right hand side one, "MSI P7n SLI Platinum"?

If so, then might be preferable to sell off your CPU and DDR2 RAM and buy an entry level current mobo and DDR3 RAM.

I think basically you may want to sell it away or if possible donate it away.

For a new set of pc. What do you need? OS? Monitor? KB and mouse? WiFi? And lastly your budget range?

Yup my current rig is the one on the right side. Worth selling? I find it quite old....was tinking to juz try reuse as a htpc.

Budget for new rig prob ard 1k...juz the cpu will do....monitor, OS, keyboard etc not needed.

I see... if u really want to continue using the LGA775 cpu QX9450 then will have to get a LGA775 mobo lor.

Maybe can buy this: Gigabyte GA-G41M-Combo. It supports 2 DDR2 slots and 2 DDR3 slots (of course can only run either DDR2 or DDR3 ram but not at the same time).

since re-seating ram helps for awhile, could be contact problem? try rubbing the rams' golden contact area with soft eraser.

ur QX9450 for htpc will be more powerful than my current gaming pc lol...

I saw tis mobo recommendation in another thread looking for mobo replacement. Assume i get tis mobo and re-use my processor, ram....how about PSU and casing? Tinking to get a sdd for the htpc as well.

Ya i got try tat method...din realli work. So i'm guessing it the mobo problem.

oic, then likely need spend $$ then.

but to make sure, must rub with sufficient force (not just lightly), so that dull gold color can see the change to... a brighter cleaner look. cuz 7 yrs, ox. layer thicker...
