Building my own computer for the first time PLEASE HELP

Hi all!

I'm looking to build my own gaming rig as I haven't got a gaming PC ever. I tried to do alot of research but not too sure what kind of pricing to expect especially since i think computer parts in Singapore are much more expensive. I was hoping to get the parts as cheap as possible with a budget of $1500 with these specs. Isit possible or am i dreaming? Also what do you all think of this build? Is it good or just an average PC build? Thanks guys! The specs are as follows:

Intel i5 8400
Asus Prime Z370-A
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Samsung 860 Evo 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Any GeForce GTX 1060 6GB w/ dual fans
NZXT S340 Elite (White) ATX Mid Tower Case
EVGA SuperNOVA G3 550W (Or any good power supply at 550W is fine)
Corsair LL120 RGB 120mm Fan x 2

use discount codes to hammer the price lower

the specs offered are similar to yours, you also pay for the one stop warranty coverage

imo gone are the days when DIY is always cheaper, there are companies out there that build custom computers at similar price points

If you buy from Lazada or Qoo10 or Shopee, you would be able to save a bit from the various discounts.

1 TB SSD seems a bit unbalanced for your build. You might want to consider 256GB instead and pair that with a HDD. For gaming, the GPU is the most important component so you might want to consider at least a GTX 1070.

As the others said you should probably rebalance the 1TB SSD and get something like 500GB SSD + HDD.

Motherboard is overkill as well for a i5 8400 as it’s not overclockable. Change it out to a H310 or B360 that has enough internal ports and you should be able to save some money there.

With that above point about change of motherboard the maximum ram speed supported should drop to 2666mhz which from what I see is the point of diminishing returns for intel anyway and is slightly cheaper as well.

Not so sure abt that fan. But I do have Corsair rgb fan that need it own hub and controller for light control so u might Wan to consider the 3 fan pack
Other then that is fine maybe just get a 500 ssd
Or u Wan to consider waiting for 2060
And do u need that mobo or like that mother board u might Wan to consider the cheaper one

The Corsair LL120 single pack does not come with the Lighting Node Pro and the RGB Hub controller. Therefore you need to at least buy 1x Triple Fan Pack to get the Lightning Node Pro + RGB Hub in order to be able to control the RGB lighting via the Corsair iCue software.

Additionally, since your CPU is non overclock, a Z370 motherboard is overkill. Just get a H310 or B360 motherboard.

Hi thks for your input! Really appreciate it! The reason i wanted to get the Asus Prime Z370 A was because i thought it would be durable and also it is good for future upgrades so i don't have to change motherboard for a long long time. If my intention is to upgrade my CPU in the near future when i have more budget but STILL NOT gonna overclock that CPU should i get this motherboard or do you have any better recommendation?

Hey there! Thanks for your valuable input! It gives me a better idea of what specs and price i should expect with my budget. I actually wanna try building my first gaming PC to gain the experience and learn more about the parts so i will put this buying of custom pcs on hold for now nontheless, thank you i do appreciate your help!

Hi! Oh i didn't knoe about the 3 packs thing thank you for that i will get the 3 pack one then for the controller thank you! Also my rationale of getting the z370 aas so that i won't have to switch my motherboard for a long long time even if im gonna upgrade my cpu. However, even if i get an i7 i dont intend to overclock so is this really an overkill or what is your view on this? Is there any good motherboard out there with the same ports that's durable and cheaper if im not overclocking? Thank you!!

lols but u getting intel or ryzen , if is intel forget it man as they every time change cpu u will need to change your mobo to fit the new intel cpu too , if it ryzen then they will still stick with it for a few more year , so if u do intend to change cpu in next 2-3 get ryzen ,then u wont need to change a new mobo

brand i pretty much dun have a preferences just take the one u prefer looks or feature . i recommend b 360 mobo series(intel) for your usage

Hey man rly appreciate the reply and thanks alot totally didn't know about the changing of chipset till you told me about it!!! I've decided to get a B360 mobo and actually got to learn more about the different models thanks to you i really appreciate it! Gonna save me a few bucks to and that helps alot!

Be sure to check that there are enough internal USB/fan headers for your various components. Made a mistake last time where the RGB fan pack required a USB 2 header and the casing used 1 as well.
