Hey guys, my bro comp recently uplorry, motherboard issue. So I'm looking to build him a new one, hoping for some help from pros here.

My budget is $800-$1000, may not be alot but I need not get a GPU as I'll be reusing the old one from his computer. Neither do I need a moniter, keyboard or mouse.

Computer will mainly be used for gaming and web surfing, no photo or video editing. No need for OC as my bro doesn't OC. Games will be like LoL, Minecraft, Rocket League, etc more towards the lower end.

A question, is it better to get Skylake or Haswell right now, I understand there is only a little performance improvement with the CPU, but will the DDR4 RAMs make a bigger difference?

Thanks for your time!

Cost:l : performance wise Haswell is alot more attractive. For gaming, skylake offers little gains to Haswell. While DDR4 is more relevant and 'future proof', it however, certainly will not bring much improvement to gaming

To sum it up,
Performance per dollar (Haswell) vs Future-Proof (Skylake)

TS.. you need wifi adapter?
type of casing you prefer? mini-itx, macro-atx, mid tower, full tower?
color theme?

how about.. choose GPU, SSD, HDD, PSU first, then see how much you have extra.. decide haswell or skylake/ ram and then casing?

SSD: Samsung evo 250gb $110 - (lazada sale)
HDD: WD 1 tb - $77

Thanks for your reply,

Considering what y'all said, I'm leaning towards getting a Skylake system with DDR4 RAM, as future proofing is a plus and I have more budget to spend on my CPU+MOBO+RAM as I don't need a GPU.

I'm looking at a i5 6500 for a mid-tier system, hoping for some suggestions on which MOBO to get that also supports DDR4 RAM.

For PSU, any suggestion on what to get?

Storage I'm thinking of getting a 1TB WD Blue and Crucial MX200 from Amazon. (Is this a good SSD model?)

Oh and no need for WiFi Adaptor, casing mid-tower.

Cheers
