Building workstation for 3d modelling and rendering

Hi, if I want to build a pc for 3d modelling and rendering, what motherboard, psu, gpu and ram should I get? Any recommendations?

My budget is s$1000. I am thinking of using back my Intel i7-7700 processor and hdd. Thanks!

I don't know what you working with...

There is cpu and GPU rendering
Of course gpu is faster but it depend on your software

Anyway, assuming is gpu render, any nvidia 1070 and up is a good choice

You will also need at least 16gb ram, though 32gb is better. Again, it depend what you working with, many use 32gb, heavy user use 64gb. Ram speed matter little

32gb ram will eat near to 1/4 or at best 1/5 of your budget.

500w psu is enough, a good one will cost at least 1/10 of your budget

Any b250 MB will do since it isn't a oc cpu, it cost at most 1/9 of your budget

The rest of the money can all go into best gpu for that money, I think can get 2060

what type of 3d modelling and rendering?

if its for the serious type, catia, solidworks or anything thats for real world production, 1000 isnt enough. Get a Quadro for that kind of work, 32gb ram, ryzen/threadripper and an SSD. If you are modelling a product with hundreds or thousands of parts, definitely 64gb ram and Quadro, SSD and a threadripper. Better yet, go with the software's approved hardware list.

If its for not so serious stuff, hobby 3d modelling/3d printing, a 2060 is good enough. 16gb ram, reuse your i7 but get an SSD. Especially if you are just bringing home work to touch up etc.

From my own experience, I only do 2D drafting with a little sketchup to visualize my concept. At the office i use an ancient i7 3700 with 8gb ram, a slow HDD and some cave man type radeon 7000 series. It works fine, its just slow at rendering.

At home I use a ryzen 5 2600, 1070ti, 16gb ram and SSD. The same file I rendered in the office took 8mins+, at home it took about 1min.

But both are lag free when modelling, its only the rendering part where you can see a huge difference.

On this topic, I'm also considering a new pc build that would allow for CAD (AutoCAD) and 3d modelling (Sketchup/Rhino+Vray). Though there's a GPU acceleration option, I believe these programs still utilities mainly CPU?
1) Does a 3200mhz ram have significant speed gain over a 2666mhz ram for this process?
2) 16gb ram (dual-channel) is definitely the min. recommended, but is there any major merits for having 32gb ram instead for this case?

P.S. I do use Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator as well. Still a student, so probably don't really require anything extreme or fancy.

Higher ram speed would means less ram usage, is a very interesting occurrence.
Performance wise, you will not notice a difference, for modelling.

2666 vs 3200 is often bought up because Ryzen require high ram speed to perform well. Intel on the other hand, only on some circumstances will benefit from high ram speed.

Therefore, you should decide ram speed base on the processor.

7700 is a 7th gen processor
H370 is for 8th gen processor

You will need to look for chipset starting with 2xx.
The 200 series commonly support 2400mhz memory.

Assuming you are reusing these parts
CPU: i7-7700
HDD: Toshiba 2TB HDD
Casing: Cooler master K282 ATX

Base on your $1k budget, I would recommend
Ram: G.Skill Aegis 2x16gb 2400mhz CL15 - $177 @ Newegg
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 650 G+ - $127 @ Newegg
MB: Asrock B250M-HDV - $82 @ Newegg
GPU: PALIT RTX 2060 6GB DUAL FAN - $489 @ PcTheme or PALIT GTX 1660 TI 6GB DUAL FAN - $409 @ PcTheme

I do not know which local shops still sell 200 series motherboard, it would be great to source a local mb because mb and gpu do have a statistically higher rate of rma.

Other than that, oversea ram is much cheaper and oversea psu is cheaper, these two components are very reliable. Of course, for the sake of peace of mind of easy RMA, you could also purchase them locally and together, it should cost $60-70 more.

It also a good idea to get a good PSU since a good PSU last really long, warranty up to 10 years therefore a sizable watt would be provide a significant future proof.
