Have a iPhone 5c not used for a while and just discovered that the phone seems to be starting to bulge probably due to the battery.

It's out of warranty but decided to send to aaple service center to see if they will offer a replacement or at least fix it.

Technician said that they will replace the phone but I need to pay $118 for a new battery. Isn't that as good as paying to get another iPhone 5c?

Is this a safety hazard and if it is shouldn't apple offer to replace FOC?? :(

5c is knowin to have battery bloated issue it’s happen on both my Dad and my sis hubby
Won’t advice u repair as Apple already face out non 64 bit phone like the 5c and Belw so no more app update or supprt

Thanks. I wonder if they will allow me to do a rma sans the battery. Then just go AliExpress and get a cheap oem battery and diy. Could still use it as a music player I guess.

The fact that it bulges might pose a safety hazard. So I was thinking perhaps they might have a safety recall which I may have missed.

I never had a swollen battery on any of the electronics that I owned. Even really old laptop that have been kept in cold store don't exhibit such problem. I am guessing it might have been a manufacturing defect.

Not impossible. Bulging battery is not considered a normal defect and is a fire hazard. I believe it is not uncommon for recalls on such defects and free repairs offered even when out of warranty.
