Good day,

Can anyone who has taken buses in Tokyo share how it works? One of the places I'm visiting is Studio Ghibli's museum and there is a bus from the station to it. How do I know how much I have to pay, do I pay when I board or before I alight?

Greatly appreciate any help!

After you come out from the correct exit. This is what you see on your right.

The bus stop is actually on the left side near the corner (cannot see easily), so plan to go early.

This is the staircase you should use to go down to the bus stop

You can see a 7-11 from the bus stop.

Iirc now got direction sign from the JR station. I might be wrong, but did not have much trouble finding the bus stop without proper research when I went early this year. Look out for totoro sign.
But then again better safe than sorry so do use can's photo guide!

when you board, if there is a little ticket for you to take from the machine at the door, remember to take it. This tells the driver which stage you got up, and you can tell the fare by the fare board typically on top of the driver.

Walk to Studio Ghibli's museum. Takes about 15mins and saves you some money on transport. The walk to the museum is also very scenic with the rustic buildings and there are signs on the way so you won't become lost.

It's not that far away and you can take pictures of the sign boards specially designed to guide people to it's museum.

Dont forget about the entrance tickets guys. Need to reseve in advance, they do not entertain walk-in once quota hit. Even you purchase ticket in advance you need to select a timing to visit. They operate differently from other theme park where you can visit anytime/anyday you want
