I just bought a retail shop and I am looking to run a 24 hrs, self service type of business there. I welcome anyone with fresh business ideas or franchises to offer. I can consider a joint venture or LLP type of partnership.

Vending machines? Just joking....

How big is your unit?

I have considered kiddie rides but the supplier said the monthly revenue maybe < $100 (after profit sharing), cannot even cover mortage and utilities. Apparently, kids nowadays are too busy with ipad and xbox. What type of vending machines r u suggesting? drinks machine not really feasible cos the surrounding area is flooded with coffee shops and 7-11.

I sometimes wonder how these self service laundries make $$$. I think most homes nowadays have washing machines. And we only use dryers if there is continuous rain for > 3 days. Dryers will also damage delicate material and $6 per min is also very ex. I bought a clothes dryer at Giant for $199. It has a hood with a device blowing hot air from below - no spinning so will not damage delicate stuff. just my 2 cents.

I knew of the coin laundry service when I read a book something like 10 things that make you millionaire.

This student who came out with a entrepreneur idea in class who later later quit his job and opened a laundry auto service. His business was good and low overhead, a business man find it interesting and lucrative and bought the business over. There he became millionaire.

something likedat .. read 3-4 years ago

I have one of the outlet near my house. At a old neighbourhood where even the neighbourhood doesnt even know it exist, they dont even give flyers. The laundry service is quite popular in other countries where especially the weather may be too wet and cold that your clothes are not dry completely.

That is why I cant seem to figure out how it will work in Singapore where almost everyone can afford a washy and bake their laundry dry under the sun at their home connivence. However I checked it out and I find the price affordable for the amount of load, which probably is 3 weeks of laundry i guess. In long term, the consumer actually saves money as a good washy with dryer sets you $1000 for 5 year warranty, and not including the electricity and water bills.

Unfortunately many ppl prefer connivence to do laundry at home.
I do see many old folks using the service thou. Can sit there kill time , la kopi and save money.

The franchisee fee for 1 of the chains is 1 x payment of $10K and yearly $500for marketing. The initial investment may be low but retail rental in a high traffice area can cost a bomb. Utilities and a couple of rows of those washing m/c and dryers will also set you back quite a bit. The advantage of this business is that if you clean the shop and top up the coins yourself everyday, then you dont have to worry about high labour costs and it is a 24x7 business.

Even if its a simple laundry service, it has to stand out from the crowd. I know their are a few different dry clean and iron methods that are target to people who are picky with how their tailored clothes or suits are cleaned.

Rent it out?

Be landlord and rent it out to tenants?

Otherwise, I thought normally you have a business to run already, that's why you buy a shop front.

he bought the shop. so he has no hurry to start a business. worse case scenario, he can rent the space out.

as for the auto laundry shop, i have seen quite a couple of shops along joo chiat. i think sales are mainly from the rich families, backpackers and low budget travellers staying that area.

A lot of my colleagues from USA who are in short business trip (about 2 weeks) are always complaining why is it so hard to find a 'coin type washing machine and drier'. They prefer the coin type as to those dry cleaning type of service where you can only collect your laundry after 3 days.

in ang moh cities most people living in apartments, condos do not have washer/dryer at home because it is not allowed by the building management. most of these units do not come with the right (water) piping and you may need local council clearance to install.

in short, too expensive and too much work. most people rent anyway.

thats why there is a demand for laundromat in these cities.
