Buying a pre built computer VS. Building one

Mostly I wanna ask about the price difference for specs,is it really a lot?

I don't want to go through the troubles of building one if it isn't really that much as I don't think I need a very good PC as i'll be playing some steam games mostly.

Trying to keep my budget as low as possible,bought my previous computer from challenger maybe 3-4 years ago at 1k.

with building one,u will get a more balanced rig that will allow u to enjoy ur games more
pre built PCs always give u a fast processor and alot of ram, but a lousy graphics card

I was thinking of getting a new monitor because i'm still using one with VGA cable. HP2009F to be exact.

Thinking of getting a 22-24 inch monitor,if i include the monitor budget I would probably have 2k-2.3k to spend for a new computer if i'm building one/buying one.

2k budget just build one and get a monitor.

Like what the other people said, building one is much more balanced. Usually pre-built ones come with insane CPU but terrible GPU.

PC themes or tradepac. Be careful if dealing with tradepac. If want a safer route, pc themes will do.

If it is OEM, you cant... need call up microsoft and convince them to reset it. If it is retail, i think up to 3 activations only?

Depending on your budget,

1. Only $500-600 branded PCs can rival that of DIY ones, anything higher DIY PCs no horse run. And DIY PCs get more value for money as budget goes higher.

2. You can customise one tailored to your specific needs.

3. You can choose parts having similar colours to create a colour-themed DIY PC.

4. You still don't need really to build it up yourself manually where you can either get shop to assemble it up or get one of the private custom DIY PC builder lurking around the forums to do everything nicely in front of you for a small fee.

4. You can get professional support from the forums here that skips all the SOPs encountered during servicing of branded PCs.

Okay decided to build one,wanna get a monitor along with speakers and amps. as well. Bringing 2.5k along with me. Hoping to spend 1.5-2.

I suggest you state your usage pattern and software, and let the people here recommend a build first.

If you want it easy, have it assembled by someone and delivered to your house, you can also contact Fortran for a quotation. He can discuss with you and recommend the parts you need, and his price is competitive.

Very much depends on whether you're comfortable troubleshooting and disassembling individual parts for RMA to distributor/shop if something spoils.

DIY: Better value, longer warranty, for serious gaming PCs, cleaner install with no pre-installed crapware
Pre-built: Easier servicing/repair, for work/light gaming PCs

Maybe can request to put Fortran's contact info as sticky thread since many people keep starting threads to ask for it. Btw, I'm not advertising for this user.
