i got mine off the Apple online store.. that's your best bet, cos the latest version of the iMac is not so friendly in terms of upgrading the ssd or ram.

so do a custom order if you are looking to upgrade the rams, or the ssd, or even the gfx card.

Don't get the ram upgrade from Apple. 27inch iMac allows you to open the back cover and add in more ram yourself.

1. use education or corporate store, it's slightly cheaper.
2. If you are like me who prefer logitech to apple magic mouse, you can exchange for trackpad instead.
3. It's more difficult to DIY anything with the new iMac except RAM. So BTO everything from apple store such as processor, graphics cards and SSD (don't buy RAM from apple).
4. If you plan to get other apple accessories such as airport extreme, do buy them at the same time and they will have extended coverage when you apply apple care to your imac.

And if you don't mind older model and don't need to customise your iMac, check out the refurbished set (something like open box set) with full warranty from apple. Performance differences between Haswell (Late 2013 model) vs Ivy bridge (late 2012 model) is small, with the greatest differences in power consumption (which is important for mobile computing not desktop) and graphics (again no impact on imac with discreet graphics).
