Plan to buy a mirrorless interchangeable camera as a secondary camera and one DSLR lens during my trip in Japan, any idea if there are any shops that have an online store/pricelist where I can check their price just to compare first? Checked BIC website but cant see any posted there.

We will be staying in Nihombashi, if anyone can recommended a specific shop that is guaranteed cheaper (at least most of their products) then I can just go there myself (at least saves the time looking for other shops).

Considering fujifilm or olympus (must of course have an english menu option). Considering 2nd hand also.

Thanks.

Go Kakaku.com saved me a bunch. But I bought from one of e small shops tat allowed cash on collection at their shop. Still much cheaper compared to discount and tax free from those major chains

Notice of termination of Worldwide warranty for Olympus Digital Cameras and Accessories

Aug 28, 2014

Olympus Imaging Corporation has been providing Worldwide warranty for digital cameras and accessories since April 1, 2004, except for some countries and regions.
However, the time has come to stop providing Worldwide warranty because of regulation by laws and differences in the infrastructure of the repair facilities in individual countries.

Please kindly be informed that Worldwide warranty will not be provided with most of our Micro Four Thirds System and compact digital camera products shipped after September of 2014.

The Worldwide warranty card you have, is currently still valid as long as it meets the conditions required for warranty repair. Also, the Worldwide warranty card enclosed with the new products which you purchase from now, is also valid. Local warranty card is valid only in the country where you purchase the product and all repairs undertaken in other countries will be a chargeable service.

there is but not in English. I have a decent standard of Japanese. I could give u a hand if you need. I will look for the list of shops then find those wit this Japanese word 店é**販売ã*‚り. Which means they have a store then I will go to their website to check

You can try Map Camera in Shinjuku, just behind the big Yodobashi chain.

I second map camera. Just a short trip to shinjuku, unless you are arriving late your first day. This place is recommended by many ppl. Actually I feel u should buy the camera body here, at least confirm will get English menu and warranty. You want to check the prices here compared to jp first? Which brand/model u getting?

the original plan is (will arrive noon of 28th) after leaving our stuffs in the hotel, we will visit tokyo tower and the temple besides it then im planning to buy the camera before going home.

as i am now convinced with your suggestion, will need to replan the first day if ill be going to shinjuku instead.

will be looking for good offers of the ff: fujifilm x-a1, x-m1, x-e1 or olympus epl-6, or omd em5... will prefer the cheaper model though not unless the better model has a considerable good offer...will be used my wife most of the time as im taking shots with the dslr ( so i can have my photos taken also :) )

BTW, do they have decent english speaking staffs there?

That's what I did years ago when I got my Canon. It has an English menu and my first stop was Map Camera. Bought a few lens along as well. English speaking staff depends on your luck but communication is sufficient enough to make a purchasing decision. Of course you'd need to do your home work first when it comes to specs, reviews, etc.

Not sure about bodies but they have plenty of 2nd hand lenses. They also nicely categorize them into 3 conditions from B, A to almost new.

To give you a rough idea, even the brand new lenses are almost similar to second hand prices here at clubsnap, so you're bound to save a lot.

Any one can vouch for prices of Yodabashi Camera? Are their prices good also compare to other shops? Might be in Akihabara on my first day there so if minimal difference with Map Camera, can buy there.

Also, do they have 2nd hand lenses and cameras also?

Yodobashi has a big store in Shinjuku, no need to go to Akihabara. You can treat it like Challenger here. Their prices are mostly list price but their selection is very complete. I dont think they sell 2nd hand items though.

Just check the websites of map camera, Yodobashi, bic camera, fujiya camera for the prices. They publish also used camera prices.

The prices are final so what u see is what u pay. Less the tax refund of 8%.
