Is it a safe/smart idea to do this?

I've been looking for a gaming laptop for uni and I've been looking at this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUS-ROG-ST...25bc6c4c16:m:m4LG6sPWEqxvxBcVRffxfrQ#shpCntId

Even with the cost of the shipping it looks way cheaper than even IT fair prices IIRC...

Have you guys ever bought laptops off bestbuy or Amazon through services like ezbuy? Safe or not?

If not, where do you guys usually buy laptops from? Simlim?

Have you accounted for the conversion rate for ebay? Normally the conversion rates will be way higher for websites like ebay or amazon, making it not that worth

Hello!

There can be potential trades offs and on top of what Derrickkk has mentioned, here are some things you should consider as well:

1. You would have to check if do they ship to Singapore (and factor in the cost of shipping)

2. GST you have to pay - this FAQ on Vpost is a good read, also do check with customs webpage as well.

3. Warranty or lack there of? Would there be international warranty on your purchase or local warranty from the country you have purchased from?

You need to consider 1 more thing

Return shipping if something goes wrong

I dodged a massive bullet once when i had to return a heavy laptop

NUS. If I'm going to own a laptop might as well get one with decent hardware... I'll be damned if I own something that doesn't at least run Overwatch this kind well

overwatch isnt that graphically demanding so you probably wont even need flagship tier graphics.

and if youre a uni person chances are your laptop is going to be out and about running on battery life whether its a 2hr lecture or working on something in a place with no power socket, and pretty much all gaming laptops arent good at battery life, thats one important thing to consider besides just the raw performance

back in my uni days i also had a gaming laptop and it could barely scratch 3hrs of battery life

That bad ah, I was thinking that they can be pushed to 5-6 hours of constant use if I'm not gaming :/

Better off getting something small/portable as you never know when you'll need to use it and where. Pity they're discontinuing Surface 3 since that would be perfect for uni given it's not too expensive, very portable, and is charged by Micro USB (i.e. just in case you need to borrow a charger or use a powerbank). And you could use the change to put towards a better gaming PC or console.

yeah. my laptop was more than 5 years ago, and even today modern gaming laptops average 3hrs battery life when not gaming. Only exception i can think of is razer blade

Gaming laptops still do not really last more than 3-4 hours.
Maybe you should consider getting a GTX950 graphics version. There will be much more choices and you can still get your battery life usage.

Anyway, we are selling gaming laptops not too expensive either:

Also have many other gaming ROGs. Do check us out. :)

I already have a very good gaming PC at home. But will be in hall for uni, and I thought I'd like to get a little bit of gaming time

Just get an ultraportable then but maybe one with an i5/Iris graphics. Better if you can find a popular model so you can potentially borrow a charger if needed.

Possible but hardly able to.
Depending on what you would be reading in university, you probably will only touch your steam libraries during semester holidays :s13:
