Hi all, first post here. I'm considering to buy parts from Amazon. Specifically the Corsair Platinum dominator ram and a CPU maybe. My question here is how is the RMA experience like? For people who bought stuff from Amazon/Newegg site (not their third party sellers), what product did you buy and how was the RMA experience with the brand. Were the replies slow? Was the warranty rejected because it's from overseas? Did you have to pay for two way shipping?

I have never tried Newegg. It always feel dodgy to me, but I know it is a legitimate website.

Amazon does have very strict return policy that benefits the consumers. It's not good for the businesses trying to sell items on Amazon, but it is a great experience for the customers.

So far, when I am not happy with a purchase, I just return it. But then again, most of my purchases are marked Amazon Prime, and they will come down here to pick up the item from my doorstep.

Is this for situations outside the return policy?

I thought you had to contact the brand of the product themselves for RMA and not Amazon .

Bought a lot of parts from amazon, both com and sg.
-Cpu -Water block -7 RAM kits -SSDs -HDD -AIO -previous keyboard & mouse
All the RMA need to ownself settle unless it's DOA / die within the return window then can return back to amazon. Some parts sold by amazon SG also don't have local warranty.

Bought my parts from amazon mostly cause amazon honors pricing errors and also cheaper than local even if you rma to taiwan.
Corsair allows RMA back to taiwan directly but need ownself pay shipping so stuff like PSU cmi.
As for WD SSD, I forgot if can local RMA, but I know my seagate HDD allows local rma.
Samsung SSDs also need deal with Samsung USA so a bit more troublesome.

I did try buying parts before from amazon and newegg sg and i still do only for certain parts that are easier to rma.

Not all are smooth sailing kind of rma. Asus, Msi & including Gigabyte needs a US address for returns. They wont be shipping it back to SG.

For cpu for both brands you can rma here but you have to wait for courier to pick up from you.

For psu, i will try to buy local. 5-15 years of warranty is hard to forgo. Not forgetting that if you buy from overseas and if you are gonna send back for rma, it will easily kill off your savings as this is one of the heaviest component to ship back. Same goes to high end gpus and you must also think that if the gpus are from the major 3 brands, you will need a US shipping address.

For ram and ssd, this is where i feel most people will end up buying. These are light items. Even to rma back, a paded envelope doesnt cost much to send back to the respective brands. Besides, there is good brands outside such as Sabrent which locally there isnt.

Casing no point, the shipping will kill you, unless they ship it free or there is a flatpacking, then yes. Or special casing that sg dont have then you may consider.

For items sold by Amazon UK, return shipping is fully reimbursed. Twice I returned item via Speedpost Express, no questions asked they reimbursed the $160 shipping

Sometimes its not because of the price but the items is not available in SG.

My most expensive item is the Huawei Matebook X Pro 2018 from Amazon US which is not available in SG when they launch.

Bought motherboard, Rams, SSD and PC Fans before and no issue.

Recent Primeday bought a nvme from Amazon SG fulfilled by Amazon US and they sent me 500GB instead of 1TB.
Initially the return process is unpleasant as I need to ship back and they will reimburse me the shipping fees.
Due to Covid, the freights charges are high and cost approx $4x to $1xx.
I contact them again with package opening video and they arrange a courier to pickup from me.

Hmm, maybe as long as the seller is Amazon SG or Amazon US. But I have returned two items before. But I always buy from Amazon SG or Amazon US. I don't really trust the independent sellers.

agree. used to dabble in x79 parts which u cant find easily locally, so had no choice but to buy from online. built 2 systems, used for a year each before selling off, most likely still working today. also, even though i dont recommend buying psus from overseas, i got a superflower 450w 80+ gold from taobao when i saw it going for just $65. since the series of psus (legion gx pro) lowest power model available locally is 650w, which is overkill for my needs and costs twice as much, and i trust the brand so i can tahan losing the 5 yr warranty. taobao also has a healthy range of mini itx cases available that can fit a lot of people's needs. meanwhile local mainly carry matx and atx cases, while having a much more limited selection of itx cases, many of which are not that tiny either. case should generally not need warranty, and for small itx cases shipping should not be too expensive. also possible to find affordable shipping for medium sized cases.

Thought it would be good to refresh this thread.

Am thinking of building a new rig. Planning ahead for singles day/black Fri in Nov.

I noticed during sales days, some discounts by Amazon can be really significant like 30-40% off SG pricing.

I did my own analysis and thought the following components can buy from Amazon during such sales days
1. RAM
2. NVME SSD
3. AIO cpu water coolers - this does get great discounts but the weight to rma back to US would be a killer.

I found other components local is cheaper or risk is too much for rma due to weight
A. Mobo-cpu combo - Aiming for amd 7800x3d with asus rog strix b650e-f (somehow sg still cheaper)
B. PSU - warranty period of 5-10years is too big to ignore.
C. Graphics card - aiming for rtx 4080 super. Somehow sg is cheaper or slightly more exp for various models

Not sure if I'm missing out details.

Why refresh the thread from 2021, information not up to date already.

I've ever RMAed Gskill DDR5 ram from Newegg before. Just open a ticket with Gskill and you send the ram to them on your account. If they certify ram is faulty, they will send a brand new one to you on their account. Turnaround around 2.5 weeks.

CPU international warranty, buy anywhere also can.

Personally, rule of thumb is if the total of the export set price and one RMA shipping cost are lower than local, then it possibly worth it.

For example, export set ram cost $140 and shipping for RMA is $10, so total is $150. Local set is $180. You potentially save $30 even if need RMA. Typically you RMA once on average anyway.

But if the price and RMA cost exceed the local price, than better just get local. Motherboard, PSU and GPU tend to fall into this category, very expensive to ship heavy items.
