Buying PC from carousell

Hi all, I am looking to get a PC for myself on carousell. Is there anything that I should take note and be aware of? Also, if the seller is providing personal warranty, how can I be sure that I will be warranted if any issues surface? Thanks for your help in advance!

Why buy from carousell? What's the budget? PC are not expensive nowadays you can get a simple one for gaming (ryzen Apu) from $400 at qoo10

For laptop the refurbished ones sold at Lazada has 1month warranty

I agree that you should share what is your budget so it’s easier to recommend. There are some good sellers in Carousell, but I generally don’t recommend that you buy from Carousell wherever possible. Especially in your case where you don’t sound like you know what to check. If you really have to get from this seller or Carousell, I recommend that you ask for the system to be tested. Now it can be either through WhatsApp video call and to ask the seller to run some stress test for sometime, or you physically be there to test. Once I sold an old rig on Carousell, and I invited the buyer to come down and thoroughly test it however he wants since there is no warranty. Don’t want later have any disputes about something not working and want to return.

only buy cheap 2nd hand things that cost less than $10 from carousell, if anything goes wrong, just treat that you dropped your $10 into toilet bowl.

basically, there is no such thing as warranty in carousell. and carousell is set up to be scammer-friendly

Reason for me looking into carousell is because I would to start playing ASAP because this ** is driving me crazy haha. Can you guys advise me on how should I go about getting myself a PC? budget $800, buy new pc lah. pc maybe go seller's house to do quick simple check but many people are unwilling to let strangers into their house. seller personal warranty is personal discretion. the truth is most people are unwilling to help or refund part/full after money is taken. buy used costly pc items, it's best to buy it with a bit of official warranty left. it's cheaper and you have a short time to use it and do rma if there are problems.

Actually 800 can get u new parts for pc alr, i dont really recommend carousell, though there a some seller who is really kind and willing to explain to u wat u should buy instead, unless u know wat u are aft and u are willing to take the risk. Usually if its on carousell, do ask if theres warranty left for the parts and how long more.

U can jus youtube and find out wat are the possible builds and look up online for parts. If u want to buy it locally, theres only a few sls vendor still selling but only deliver to door step. From wat i know, bizgram, dynacore and tradepac is still on but not sure the rest since its ** period.

yep ur right, usually i go for casing and rams since either of them actually have "official" warranty, rams is "lifetime warranty la, but who know wat will happen???

BTW some recommendation on where to buy parts,
-cpu can buy online
-rams can buy online also and cheaper than local one where all are bad now, bins are bad
-psu buy locally and buy new ones dont go for 2nd hand
-cooler can use stock cooler if u buy amd ones, not sure bout intel
-gpu best buy new ones, or 2nd hand mid range also not bad but must have warranty left ard 6 months(?)
-casing can buy 2nd hand, since its jus casing nothing will go wrong, jus need to inspect properly from the image and compare from the net if there any physical damage, ask if theres and defects on the io prts

Do you already have a Monitor, Keyboard and Mouse? Or is the 800 bucks meant for everything?

I think what watzup_ken mentioned is good, do a video call and at least go through the boot up and maybe run a game if the seller has any to test with.

With a $800 budget, you can build a new rig.

Buying secondhand parts is fine if you know what to look out for. Do deal only with reputable sellers as you have to trust them to honor the personal warranty.

Alternatively, you can look at Dreamcore or Aftershock for complete build.

800 without monitor is a good budget for a new PC (CPU only)

800 WITH monitor is a good 2nd-hand budget.

ur budget quite decent for a new rig, or can go for 2nd hand if u're comfortable with it. can consider aftershock/dreamcore as other bros recommended but waiting time may be long.

just built mine recently with a carouseller who is acty a shop emselves and got it within 1-2days. legit with invoice/warranty and their parts from local distro. service was great and honest. decided to go with them outta 5-6 i contacted (including hwz forum/carousell/branded PCbuilder) due to their service and availability.

alternatively, if you got the time, can just hunt for parts in lazada, shopee and amazon and build yourself. no wfh for me, so i researched for parts and went for a PC builder instead.

$800 can be alot or can be little depend on spec and purpose.

best is asked for what use and if laptop possible.

Hi, Carousell is more risky and sellers can run road after you paid the deposit (which happened to my friend). There is a higher chance of them closing shop and you will have no way of contacting them should you need technical support.

If you are new to DIY PC and don't know how to build your own, I would recommend you to go for Aftershock for their 3 yrs warranty (1st year onsite pickup and return) and less hassle troubleshooting.

You can consider Aftershock's Rapid system for $784 (only change the CPU to Ryzen 3 3100 in their website for this price). This will run DOTA 2 and CS GO smoothly at 1080p. If you have more cash, then increase the RAM to 16GB (8GB x 2 pcs).
