Im planning to go to Yang Ming Shan from Ximending, and Ive checked that the cab fares cost ard 500NT( half hr ride) . The fastest way to Yang Ming Shan sld cost ard 100NT for taking Metro and bus (1hr + journey?)

Because Im using Google Maps for directions to navigate around Taiwan, Im not sure whether the journey times for public transport is accurate. As such, is it better to take a cab if Im able to cut down half the journey time? We are travelling pax of 4.

Pls advise! tyty

Public transport is 100NT per person right? If it is, I will suggest u take cab up, just 100NT more and you will save quite alot of time

Depending on what time you travel to Yang Ming Shan, the bus going up can get crowded because of students heading to their University. Not a comfortable ride if you are going with kids or older folks.

There are two stations to catch the bus, Jian Tan and Shilin, you should get on at Jian Tan because it is the starting terminal, more likely to get seats.

Yangmingshan is a place when you can spend the whole day so if you rushing for time, just take the cab. For us, we started at 1or2pm, cab from Jiantan to top of Yangmingshan(Qingtiangang) for 350NT. Spent some time there, took bus to next spot, didn't dare to go too far before we had to wait for bus to go down again. Bear in mind the last bus running through the mountains is at 5.30pm,and it becomes very packed starting 4pm. You won't want to risk being stranded so get down early. And there are no cabs running in the mountains!!

Also, after getting dropped off at the foot of the mountains, we had to change bus to get to MRT. As it was around 6pm, there was a major traffic jam and we had to endure a 2hr ride, like 30 bus-stops worth...standing throughout.

So to avoid this u should go in the morning..

a group of 4 might as well take cab already, the money difference not that much and save time and energy

go cab~ 4 of you get to divide the fare anyway so just fine~ faster and more comfortable too. taiwan public transport tend to be crowded sometimes (well anywhere else could be too). just make sure your cab is trusted and driver's not a con. i know it's not usual in taiwan but better safe than sorry right?
