Hi,

Any expert can help?

Got some question in mind....

Telco's mobile plan, if we need caller id, we need to pay extra $5+ per month for it.

question 1) if we unsubscribe the caller id, will the number appear on our phone IF the caller is from our phone book?

question 2) saw a lots of caller id apps in google play.. IF we install those caller id app and unsubscribe the caller id from telco, will the caller number (non-phone book caller) appear on our phone just like what we had subscribed the caller id from telco?

1. No.

No. "Caller ID" here is really Calling Line IDentification. Which means they give you the calling number and let your phone match it to a name stored in your directory. If you do not subscribe to Caller ID, they'll block the CLID going to your phone and all you'll see is "unknown" instead of the calling party's number.

I hate paying for this too. It seems so basic. But that's life.

Caller ID on iPhone?

2. I don't think it will work in Singapore case, since if the CLID can't be sent, you probably won't be able to identify the caller.

Try try lah. Deactivate for a month then try the apps. I highly doubt it will work, since caller ID is sent through mobile signal and if ur telco blocks it because u didn't pay $5, apps can't do anything. It will just show up as "Unknown" or "Private number" (adding to phone book will not make any difference, since the phone doesn't get the caller's number, the phone can't know which one of your contacts is calling).

I hate paying for such a basic thing too, but that's how they squeeze more money out of you. Everyone will go for caller ID, so if the telco can charge separately for it, MORE PROFIT! Btw, caller ID on prepaid is free, right?
