8 days? seems alittle too long for a small place like siem reap (small as in excluding the angkor ruins).

Yah I think 8 days is kind of too long of Siam Reap unless if you are a student doing some history project! :)

Normally 4D3N should be enough lor..

If going Phnom Penh maybe add 1-2 days.

I am thinking of visiting Cambodia too - any travel buddies? Planning to go Siem Reap n Phnom Penh. Is there any day tours available similar to what they had in Phuket or Krabi?

I want to cover the touristy places within 5-6 days.

Angkor Park includes Angkor Wat, Bakheng Hill, Ta Prohm Temple etc???

To make things simple, it can generally be covered by a minor circuit and a grand circuit.
This is a very good map to start with.
SR-AngkorMain.jpg

Minor circuit (Red route) includes: Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom (Bayon & etc), Ta Keo, Ta Prohm and Banteay Kdei.
Grand Circuit (Green route): Sras Srang, Pre Rup, East Mebon, Ta Som, Neak Pean and Preah Khan.

Beyond these 2 circuits, imho, Banteay Srey is a must see.

IF you go Phnom Penh, you can try the Russian MArk, they ahve lots of things there to buy! And there's also a Jap restarant at Paragon, the higest floor, it's real cheap there, considering to Signapore!

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks. U have been a great help!

Btw, is it tough to get a cab to and fro this place? What are the charges I should be looking at?
I don't recall seeing any flag-down taxi in SR. Even there are taxis, I don't think they cruise for fares.
The usual practice is to book a car or tuktuk from the place that you stay (or if you have other sources, you may also book directly from them).
Booking a car costs around USD25-35 a day and a tuktuk about USD12-15. The vehicle will be at your disposable from 7/8am till ard 630pm. Asians usually book cars because they are more comfy and it is aircon. Ang moh tends to prefer tutktuk but it can be messy in raining season and some part of the roads (eg to Banteay Srey) which can be dusty during dry weather.

Feel free to ask here if you need more info. :)

^^ The one that I recently stayed was a hotel and slightly expensive but I only find them so-so for the price paid. So can't and won't recommend it to you.

No you don't need to change in to Cambodia Riel coz most of the prices are in USD. And the exchange rate is always USD1 to R$4000. So if an item is R$6000. you pay USD2 and get a change of R$2000. Cambodia Riel is worthless once outside their country.

Remember to bring a lot of USD1 notes. And try not to bring notes bigger then USD20.

I went to SR last dec as part of a community service program. My pointers to new visitors is as follows:

1) Cambodia is using USD hence some of the stuffs there they markup by alot (close to 300%).

2) Some attractions tourists got to pay triple the price.

3) AngKor wat is a nice place but u will get bored soon once inside there cos all u see is ruins, ruins and more ruins :D.

4) Ard ang kor is all the other kinda ruins like Ta Prohm, Ang Kor thom.. quite interesting. However, the ancient staircase are a real challenge - easy to climb the staircase, but difficult to come down esp if u got fear of heights...

5) The most popular markets in SR are old market and night market. Most of the shops there all sell similar items... u will get sian going up and down. Always be on guard to bargain the best price..

6) See if u can get used to cambodian food - chances are most singaporeans wont! cos cambodians use some special kind of garnishes - u juz feel like puking out... if there is one thing i enjoyed in the cambodian food, that wud be Amok Fish in Coconut milk.. the rest i wont recommend, u rather opt for western food.

7) The restaurants u gotta wait very long for ya food.. most of it la..

Thats my 2cents worth :D Enjoy ya trip!

I agree with that. I was not able to get used to Cambodian food. They like to eat their food dry, too saltish or too sweet.

besides western food, there chinese food too
