1) Siem Reap
3) Price range? Hotels in Cambodia are not expensive compared to other cities...

TA would be a good reference point...

1) Angkor Wat is in Siem Reap
2)Bamboo train is only found in Battambang... 4 days is not sufficient enough to explore there as ur schedule will be very tight

3) Try Thunborey Hotel. 18USD per night.. last time i stayed was only 12USD.. the price increases due to its increasing popularity :)

You will need a lot of time on the road since the roads that link cities are not sealed highways. Battambang is out of the way. You need to put in the time cost of travelling there and back. You only have 4 days. The fastest mode of travel between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh is the 6h bus ride in the day, unless you plan to fly. You need a full day to visit Angkor Wat. Another day at least in Phnom Penh. If you bought a return ticket to Phnom Penh or Siem Reap, you have to add in the time cost of repeating a road trip in the reverse direction.
Budget accommodation choices are aplenty in both cities. I think it is possible to scout around after you arrive. I am visiting again at the end of March. I shall fly to Phnom Penh and return home from Siem Reap so that I do not repeat the road journey.

thanks guys! hmm, looking at the response, does it means tat Phnom Penh is not really a place to look forward to?

i'm planning for a 5 days trip.... so should i just stay put and explore around Siem Reap?

what is the usual cost in total to travel to Cambodia per pax, including airfare, hotel, expenses?

it is not that PP is not a place to look forward to. of cuz it is since it is the capital of cambodia! just that 4 days is not enough.

but since it is now a 5 days trip now.. yes u can go to phnom penh. bus ride from siem reap to PP will be around 6 hrs. so basically u will have 2 days in SR and 2 days in PP.. quite tight i must say though but still manageable.

PP is worth visiting, if only to visit the haunting Toul Sleng torture chambers and the Choeung Ek Killing fields, both of which you can cover in 1 day. The historical significance of these destinations to Cambodia's tragic past and humble present cannot be overstated. Plus another day to visit PP proper, check out their tiny national museum and temples, spend a few hours at their riverside and take a cruise around the Tonle Sap river.

So I suggest at least 2 days in PP, followed by a 1 day bus ride to Siem Reap for 2-3 days. You can see the major Angkor temples in 2 days. You can spend the third day either visiting the smaller, further temples, or cruising the Tonle Sap lake (lake, not river), and watch how the poor water people live.

I returned from Cambodia 2 weeks ago. I took a Jetstar flight to Phnom Penh which arrived at about noon, so after a walk along the Sisowath Quay, in the afternoon I had time to visit Tuol Sleng and Choeung Ek. The same evening, I visited Nagaworld and the fairground opposite to it. The following morning, I visited the palace before taking a bus to Siem Reap. I could have visited the national museum too on the second day if I chose to leave for Siem Reap in the afternoon and reach Siem Reap after dark.
As for Siem Reap, I found a tuk-tuk driver in Siem Reap to pick me up to catch sunrise at Angkor Wat on Day 3. I completed the Small Circuit and visited Banteay Srei too. The same evening I visited the night market and pub street in Siem Reap town. On the morning before I flew home, I visited the floating village, which I do not recommend.

Hi another important note. DO NOT take night buses from SR to PP if u value ur life. Cambodia has one of the highest road accidents and casualties for night buses ride.

Any idea how is Motherhome Guesthouse / Inn?
They are ranked 1st and 2nd respectively on TA, just want to come here to ensure that they are "real reviews"

Thanks!

Sweet and short FR, do you have a blog of this trip or any photos uploaded somewhere to share?:)

I am very happy I made the right choice of Claremont Angkor Boutique Hotel. For Phnom Penh, I was also very satisfied with my selection of the King Grand Boutique Hotel.

Try to take the bus service run by Capitol (St. 182, corner with Street 107) at Oreussey Market. I took this service to the centre of Siem Reap. Other buses may drop you at the terminal outside Siem Reap.

Thats good.Intent to take the ride by Mekong Express but it drop off at the Outside terminal. Seems like Capitol is better as my hotel is in Old Market and this bus ticket cost $5usd as shown on website?
