Anyone can recommend a video cam for recording football games in the day? Preferably need external storage as recordings are 2 hours long. 1080p video and preferably rain proof. Budget $300 or less :)

For a daytime shoot, it is easy.

First, what type of shot? Static or closeup
Static - you may need a wide angle lens
Closeup - You need a superzoom and a keen eye

For the stated budget, you will be limited to handycams. Any camcorder can shoot 1080 nowadays.

You do not need external storage ( read expensive! )
Just use the max SD card the camera can support and adjust the quality setting. For this price, even LP 1080i or 720p is acceptable.

IF you want to shoot multi angle, make sure you / an editor knows what they are doing, as it will increase the budget and time required

And if you somehow are a fan of POV shots @ the goalkeeper, you will need budget for "throwaway" cameras. IE: Inexpensive ones that is not so heartpain if the ball hits it. On the flip side, you will get an AWESOME SHOT!

Sorry for the late reply.

ill probably be upping my budget to $1000 for the whole rig. been looking at panasonic hc v770 and it seems to suit my needs not that i know much!

shots are probably shot static on the halfway line panning left and right with a raised tripod. im still unsure if sound is essential and would probably leave this decision open. idealy one with external mic jack should i decide i need to.

cheers!
