This was a tragic accident. Both remarks were deemed as inappropriate and insensitive. There is no need to politicise this.

It’s in bad taste to make such remarks when there was a loss of life.

Minister Heng went down to visit the family of the deceased, and you guys make light of such a sombre and tragic event by making such tasteless remarks? - “Got tell them this is his East Coast plan?” and insinuate that this tragic loss of life as part of the plan?

All users who mentioned this in the thread have been given 3 infraction points. Please spare alittle more thought for the deceased and his family.

Removed for politicising, baseless claims and perceived stirring

so you basically blanket-infract every post with 'east coast plan' without understanding the context?

my post meant no disrespect to the victim, but rather to highlight that the hoop was under the purview of East Coast GRC.

personally, i felt it was a little harsh for you to give the warnings indiscriminately. in fact, it seemed a little politically-motivated.

just my humble opinion.

I accept your opinion but politely disagree on what is perceived as indiscriminate and harsh.

This is a non political issue. It should remain as such. If users want to discuss on the GRC’s infrastructure and maintenance - that’s a fair discussion noting that this was an incident on public premises. In fact there are on going discussions of such nature in the thread.

There is however, no need to bring a campaign speech / promise (the context and origin of this phrase) and make a mockery of it at the expense of the victim. Since they seem to enjoy making light of such a tragic event, how about these forumers go to the bereaved family and tell them that the death of their child is part of an East Coast Plan — such as the example seen in the first screenshot?

My guess? — No forumer would do so in real life and neither should they do so online.

Each infraction given is reviewed based on the context of the thread and the meaning of the phrase.

I align as apolitical.

I appreciate your reply and your viewpoint on this matter.

i wholly agree that the accident was tragic and unfortunately. the death of the victim should not be taken lightly or made a mockery of. however, i did specifically stated my disappointment with the hoop's maintenance, nothing on the victim or family.

and it is in the east coast grc, no? is east coast grc not covered under the east coast plan? my gripe is with the hoop's maintanence, period.

that's why i said it was indiscriminate, without understanding the context or even reading the post. had i posted something that was inappropriate or insulting to the victim, i would have accepted your warning unconditionally. but it just feels that i have been wrongly interpreted and lumped in with the rest.

just wanted to put my points across.

I agree with you and share similar concerns on the hoop’s infrastructure and maintenance.

Taking into account your explanation, I have reversed your infraction.

It strangely remains a non-political issue when it concerns a certain party in power...

Especially when their responsibility is questioned and their competence is on the line.

You are free to insinuate and view the moderation with rose tinted glasses. Even if the incident opposition ward, I would have issued infractions in the same manner. Would it make me an pro opposition then?

What’s undisputed is that I am clear in my conscience and have acted on this infraction without bias to any political party.

I’ll believe it when I see it.

The original thread was titled "Heng Swee Kiat visits family of victim blah blah blah."

His facebook statement about his visit with his East Coast Team was already political and yet we cannot comment on "East Coast Plan" as it is deemed political.
The comments were not even made in the merged "17yo died .... thread".
Thread title with political figure is already political in nature and now all get infracted for "politicizing it"?
What is there to politicize in the original unmerged thread?

And Heng Swee Kiat is basically synonymous with East Coast Plan and all get infracted?

And you reckon your remarks was not insensitive? “Got tell them (inferred as you referring to the deceased’s family) this is his East Coast plan?”

Don’t come up with all this spew of words feigning innocence to what you were implying. Synonymous or not with a political figure, it’s an insensitive remark that’s not needed.

A minister and mp of the GRC visits the grieving family, but you reckon that cracking a East Coast Plan joke to imply that the death was a result of it is appropriate?

Spare a thought for the family and friends of the deceased - some of whom who reads our forum.

You can crack a joke on the East Coast plan.. or the magical language changing cups but there is a time for everything.

I would plainly put it that your remarks were still distasteful given the context of the earlier titled thread.

You also questioned why no other forum users infracted and now question why all are infracted.

I was questioning at first why my east coast plan was deleted and infracted when other east coast plan posts were not. Mine was not even the first post.
This is not impartial in my view.

Then after i raised this, other posts were then deleted.

And the post was done in the original thread of "HSK visiting... blah blah thread" which was political in nature and u then merged to the 17yo died thread
and infracted me another time for politicising the thread.

The "Got tell them Is East Coast Plan" remark is meant for HSK, not for the family. U want to interpret as insensitive to the family is ur right as i have my right to think
u are not impartial. If u think u r impartial, i have nothing to say.

It's ok. Have decided not to contribute any posts to EDMW in future.

We attend to reports by fellow forum users who reported the posts to be distasteful and insensitive. Based on your feedback here — we further removed all other remarks.

If I am partial, I am only partial to the victim’s family. Such words are not required at this given moment.

I can understand the need to be sensitive to unfortunate events here especially where death occurs.
But I am particularly curious how come events elsewhere in the world also seems to come under this purview?

I read somewhere points given over incidents in China or India. Why should any comments in a small forum here be of any concern or seen as insensitive when it's not even gonna be reflected in the countries of origin?

I think this only serves to show an over moderation on the part of mods.
I think mods needn't have to act on every post flagged by someone who might an SJW or feel offended at every unflattering remark. Perhaps a deletion would be better served.
Just a suggestion.

cause being sensitive has no geographical boundaries?

Based on the quotes alone and politics aside, it is first and foremost distasteful and insensitive.

I think the moral of the story is, try not to post things that you would possibly not say in real life.
