Can your graphic card fit into your casing?
Can your PSU support your graphic card? It will be better if you can tell us the brand and model.
Do you have enough PCIE X6/X8 power connector for the graphic card?

R9 270X is good enough to run most of the game at mid/high setting @1080p.
You will not face any bottleneck.

R9 280X is entirely up to you.

Anyone use HP Pavilion P6000 series( P6680d)before?

The P6680d HP PC,anyone used it before? Can the gpu be change to GTX 960 , R9 270xoc, or R9280x?
So if want to change the gpu must change psu also?

Is your pc's specification same as this?
http://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c02542172

If yes, the PSU is only 300W, not enough for R9 270X.

You got two option.
1)Change PSU which can be quite troublesome for better graphic card.

2)Stick to your original PSU and get GTX750ti. GTX750ti is 25~35% weaker than R9 270X

A well known PSU with a continuous output rating of 450W or higher for GTX960 and R9 270X, 500W or higher for r9 280X and 290X. It is good if you can get one with 80+ bronze or higher.

I think you better check properly before you make any purchase... like clearance of gpu space and the psu dorm factor... from what I know, prebuilt pc mostly have custom boards and psu to fit in their cases.

pre built pc normally all the **** parts and casing quality absolutely garbage with extremely terrible quality PSUs that may burn down ur desk.

I suggest sell and get overhaul.

i dont think u can just change the psu like that. u have to check the size of the current one and see if the standard atx psu can fit into ur case.

the best bet is to get a GTX 750 Ti which requires no extra power cables. However if u are looking into high end games with high-max settings, then its best to buy a new PC.

I used i3 2120+ 7970ghz lasttime can run alot AAA title in high setting , no need buy a whole new pc , the main thing is a good gpu & solid psu . His i5 is still capable to run

Your dual core Core i5-650 need to change as well. Westmere dual core is still a margin from Sandy Bridge Core i3, average frame rates on AAA games maybe ok but minimum fps will suffer.

Honestly speaking, rather you build new one while reusing some parts like RAM, HDD and ODD.

Whats the difference in gpu no? 270x and 290x eg. Is it that one outperform this? I reuse my old i5 650. Change psu and gpu. I change to r9 270x oc sapphire vapor x. Add 2gb ram extra. I just play med-high setting on bfbc2,bf3 and 4, codmw,1,2,3bo,bo2,bo3,aw,ghost. Any latest fps that comes out. Or latest games.

Btw there are few well known pcs, dell, acer,hp, and asus. Price of nearly 2k or 1.5k. Capable of playing graphical demanding games on high-ultra?
