I keep hearing that bringing in barbecued meat will get confiscated at customs so I need to think of other presents to bring along.

Will chilli prawn rolls also get confiscated, or is it ok? How about the bengawan solo boxed pineapple tarts?

does this mean even biscuits pose a problem if in check in luggage?

I always see bags with signs tied to them asking them to go to the customs declaration. Wondering if these are usually because there's food in them.

Just declare to avoid all these unnecessary unless you bringing some large amount and illegal stuff mixing together. If get caught you only have yourself to blame. Play by the rule and you will be fine and dont spoilt your holiday

I have bought along pineapple tarts from bengawan solo in before for my friend. Although I have advised people on this website before against bringing in bak kwa, I cannot find the relevant info on Japan Customs website. Have they changed the ruling?

Bak kwa can bring freeze dried one iirc. Is those loose ones that are not allowed.

Not 100% sure though

Official rule from customs is that they needs to be sealed and have a certificate stating that they have been sealed to specifications. Meats (ie jerky) from some countries like NZ have such a seal, but individually wrapped bak kwa and lup cheong from SG don't.

That said, I have hidden both of them in my luggage before successfully. Chilli prawn rolls and Bengawan cookies are fine. Brought them in many times.

Those shrinkwrapped bak kwa from Fragrance leh? Lim Chee Guan and Kim Joo Guan also seal their bak kwa nowdays... still cannot?

I think if you talking about lowering your chances, dress smart, carry minimal luggage, and arrive in a crowd of other tourists. Like this, your chance will be very minimal. :D
