Anyone knows what happens if you cancel a flat application? My ballot number is more than double the available number. Is there a penalty if I cancel my flat application? I cannot find any concrete information on this.

if your queue number is way beyond the number of units available for selection, then chances of selecting an unit will be very slim and it will be "automatically cancelled"

If you are thinking of applying for this round of Sales Launch ending 26 June, you can safely go ahead. There will be no need to cancel your current application.

However, if somehow you still got invited for flat selection for the current application with more than 10 units to choose from, but you reject the chance to book it, then you will incur a non-selection count and all your ongoing flat application(s) will be cancelled. Take note if this happens, with 1 non-selection count, your subsequent flat applications will be placed in the second-timer category for a 1-year period.

HDB will waive the non-selection count for applicants with 10 or fewer BTO flats to choose from; or 5 or fewer SBF flats to choose from.

Please go read up the link Applebonkers had provided...

No, I mean cancelling before being asked to select. Given the high ballot number, it is likely there is unfavourable units left.

I have read this https://www.hdb.gov.sg/cs/infoweb/r...for-new-flats/application?anchor=cancellation. It says there is no penalty during "sales launch" but I dont know how this is defined. Is it still a "sales launch" period when I cancel after receiving my ballot number?

After receiving a queue number, you are now at the second stage/category of "After sales launch but before booking a flat".

Ya their policy seems a bit vague. Might be intentional so that people don't anyhow ballot. Their official policy is u will be penalized if u are invited to select but didn't select.

But technically u r not invited to book a flat yet. So maybe u can write in and ask them about this to get a clear answer. I think if u have valid reason they will be more willing to let u forfeit your Q since are not even invited yet and there shouldn't be a penalty on u if u got legitimate reasons to drop out of the queue.

This was a recent policy change made HDB and I kinda buy into its idea. It prevents people from anyhow applying, which opens up more chance to others who need it.
Yes also make some people to bid for less popular projects instead of people chiong for prime areas

If in the slightest chance that you receive 2 invites for 2 different projects in the same period, what happens you if reject the first selection, and are you still able to select a flat for the second project (1.5 week after the first project), given that you prefer the later project over the earlier one.

Alternatively are you able to select 2 projects and then cancel one of them later for this situation?

This recent cancellation policy change started to apply to Aug2023 BTO onwards. If you are holding a queue number for May2023 BTO then you can still apply for any BTO now, still be considered as first-timer and possibly hold two concurrent invites. Else if you are holding an invite of later BTO project then your next BTO application will be rejected.

You can cancel your application, just write in to them. Meanwhile you can apply for new BTO as well.
and below 2 scenario will happen

If selection ends before your queue number, nothing happened.

If your queue number called, you didnt go, you will become second timer and all other application will be cancelled.

Once you have a queue number, it doesnt matter if you cancel or not. They will still penalise you if you invited to choose a flat but you didnt do so.
