Cannot detect wireless printer

recently bought the canon MG3670, able to install the printer via the usb connection but not able to find it via the wifi connection.

went through all the steps in the setup but still not able to find the printer via my wifi network. is it because my computer is connected via lan?

wifi is secured and i'm new to the wireless printer thing so not sure how the printer can connect without entering the password.

any advice?

Typically printers with wireless have their wireless set up as an access point i.e. it has an SSID for you to connect to

You'll need to setup the printer as a client i.e. make it connect to the router SSID like you do with your laptop/handphone.

And this is why having LAN connection is good on printers and nowadays the LAN version can even cost more than the wifi-only version.

Restrictions

When connecting another device while a device (such as a smartphone) is already connected to the printer, connect it using the same connection method as the connected device.
If you connect using a different connection method, the connection to the device in use will be disabled.

i'm able to set up my iphone and android phone to detect the printer via the wireless network but somehow having problems with my PC which is on lan.

Did you already setup your printer to function within your network??? I'm assuming that you did from the bolded statement. Sorry but i'm confused by what you wrote.

If you have already setup your wireless printer to function as it should, just run the setup software on your pc (drivers, software). The setup should automatically search for the wireless printer on your network, select it and you are good to go. If you are having problems detecting it could be something else; firewall blocking, printer wasn't setup in the first place etc etc

For initial setup, current generation of wireless consumer printers(at least for Canon) do utilise the usb port as an option, from printer to computer to act as the gui for connection to your home wireless network, during which your computer's internet access is cut off temporarily for setup purposes through the printer's wifi.

thats the thing. i was able to setup the printer with the usb connection, print from my phone. but just not able to have the PC detect it. switch off my firewall and it still didn't work. i'm starting to think its because my pc is directly connected to the ont and not through the router...?
