Hi guys, I am thinking of taking a degree in banking and finance part-time. Currently, the schools that I am looking at is mainly Kaplan double degree in banking and finance and also SIM bachelor in banking and finance(Hons). Anyone knows which is more recognized and would most likely land me a job in the finance sector? My main concern right now is the duration of the course, mainly 3 years for SIM and 1.5 years for Kaplan. Thanks in advance!

Go for SIM. Kaplan over-rated.

Do you mean that Employers have a better view of SIM degrees than Kaplan?

100% yes. SIM UOL is so legit that even the chinese govt recognizes it seperately(i cant find the link at the moment) It's graduates also enter the big 4 on a regular basis. This i can confirm because when i interned there i worked with a few.

What do you mean by over-rated? Meaning to say it's not that well recognized in the Singapore market as compared to SIM?

SIM has a much better reputation locally, although Kaplan is also a well known education provider globally(they do many prep books and entrance exams etc).
If you work in sg, best to do SIM
If you want to work overseas, either is fine.

I see, thanks for the advice guys. Much appreciated! Also, another question is what's the difference between a degree with HONS and without? Does it really matter if my degree has HONS when applying to a private sector?

Without hons it is harder to do masters. Private sector may not look too kindly on it as well. For example, if you want to go Big 4, you need 1st class hons. Banks as well. maybe small sme dont need, but you dont want to limit your options even before you start working. Honours is important.

No problem!! There are many others here that you can rely on in this forum. If you have any other questions, please feel free to post here.

In summary, best private education provider is SIM. Honours are important for many jobs.

Best to guage is to go and see their academy institutions. Can tell teh difference immediately. from my own opinion, SIM has better facilities compared to kaplan.
