Hi all!!! I'm new to this forum and really got no idea how everything works so I hope I'm doing everything right! Is this how I should ask a question?
I'm not very good with computers and recently after coming home, I opened up my laptop as per usual and I just could not login into my local account. WRONG PASSWORD. I typed in the password NUMEROUS times. I'm 100% sure it's right. My dad & I tried everything from googling for solutions like using a bootable thumb drive or something and then using command prompt and all that jazz that I have no clue about. Couldn't fix it tho.
Finally decided to dump everything inside and reformat it but THEN. I can't bc it says there's a missing disk partition? LOL. Just want to know if my laptop can still be salvaged bc I want to sell it ASAP to get a MacBook. And if I can't do it at home then where should I bring it to get repaired too?
Ah, I'm really clueless about all this so I really appreciate any form of help!! THANK YOU T.T

FYI: ASUS N550JV, Windows 8. Only used for less than a year, no warranty I guess

Hi,

Few questions to ask:
1. Did you recently sign into any Windows applications? i.e. Windows Store using your outlook / Hotmail account?

2. Did your N550 come with Win 8 out of the box and subsequently got upgraded to Win 8.1 via Windows update?

If yes, then upgrading to Windows 8.1 probably bricked your recovery - something which I have experienced previously on my Asus too - this is the explanation for the missing boot partition.

There's a workabout solution which I had done, but I cannot remember the specifics. Wrote it down somewhere. Will update if I find it.

Update: Yup, the "partition not found" error message is an issue encountered due to the upgrade process from 8 to 8.1

What you have to do is this:

1. Create a bootable Windows 8 recovery thumb drive.
2. Boot via the recovery thumb drive via bios.
3. Access the reset / refresh options via that method.
