I dont mind staying in these. Anyone tried? Any recommendations?

Depends on hostel. So far clean and good. Better cleanliness than apartments.

Somethings cannot be controlled. Eg. Your fellow hostel guests at time of stay and their hygiene

Tried a few, all gd. Very clean quite cosy n pretty cheap. Stayed Tokyo ginza bay hotel, nihonbashi bay hotel, centurion Hotel etc.

stayed once for 6 nights in a capsule hotel beside Shinjuku station. clean but not necessarily cheap (sgd70 per night)
