Career Change?

Stuck in this job (electrical engineer in manufacturing field) for 4 years, coming 5...
The pay is so so (2.5 no increment since day 1...).
But some time have to work til odd hours like next day morning...

Any advise on a career change to IT related (cyber security field)?
I have a B.Eng in EEE. Also just completed a CEH course but havent take the exam yet.

I don't think I or anyone can give you good advice without knowing what you really want to do and things you can do. CEH just tells me you know some very broad definitions and thats it. If you are planning to switch for the $$$, I think there are better options out there like just finding another job within your industry without going through the hassles of learning alot of new stuff.

Even in security, there are many branches - Sales, Pre-Sales, End User Environment - Governance and Risk Management and Compliance, Audit, Technical Consulting - Pen Testing, Forensic, Incident Response etc.

If you have the right skillsets for sales, I strongly recommend you to go there because that's where the money is and rapid career progression if you can perform.

manufacturing industry is like sunset le... wat i'm doing nw is PLC programming / autocad drawings. i knw abit of C/C++. i'm thinking of going in to pentesting or forensics but have no idea where to begin, whats the pay like, job scope/working hours? as for sales, i'm not much of a speaker...

Well if you want to choose the hard path, like Pen Testing.

I have no comment on pay, I think it's up to individual ability to get them. For hours, based on my friends, it really depends on each company and project. Some projects demand after office hours activities, so you probably have to do that.

why do you even want to go into cyber security. it is like just the wannabe thing for most people now but don't think the demand is that high yet. since you are proficient in python and java, you should consider getting into such roles first and such roles usually don't require you to have IT related education, but a good portfolio and your skills

Cybersecurity is not only about penetration testing. I know there are less jobs but as we move in the future we are more and more relying on technology.

If you saw the game called watch dogs, you may think it is fiction but no, it is happening already.

yup looked at it. They don't state the pay range though and mostly needs like >=5 years experience.

The job description doesnt fit a real Pentester. Looks more like a Information Security officer. This is likely a fake or poorly constructed Advert

Just for everyone's information, Cyber/Information Security is not all about Technology. It involves People, Process and Tech.

Cyber Security industry is super-tough to get in .... you need to impress your interviewer/s.
