Career switch to IT

Hey guys.. will like to know more about IT as i will like to switch to IT path. Still in my early 20s. Im currently pursuing finance degree and i dont find myself working in the finance sector in the future. Im more inclined to IT stuffs.. thinking to switch my major pathway to information management degree in kaplan. Does it help me to create a entry to the IT career? What other cert should i take? Ccna or mcsa? And how is the IT jobscope like? And how is the exam for ccna and msca like? Mcq questions or essay?

Sorry for so many question. Appreciate if theres any valuable info.

i think you need to first determine which sector of IT you are interested in and why.
IT is very broad, quite hard for people to advise you on the general picture.

when you say IT stuff? what stuff?

normal the cert should be sponsored by the coy, don't need to go on your own. and again, which cert you need again determined by above.

Any IT degree / diploma can give you an entry to IT job.

The question is what exactly you want to do ?
System, network, security, application development, database, etc...

Is information management degree good for IT career? Is there any application development course? I only know ccna and mcsa now.

There are many app development course, java, dot net, php, etc.

don't try to time the market. what if after you grad then market demand shift? then you change focus again?

why not you figure out what you are interested and willing to work with, else how to survive long run?

also, just to let u know, IT not very transferable, you can't just switch from systems to network or database as you will.

ok.. so should i proceed to change to information management degree or just a general management degree and take up other professional IT cert

end of day, what you need to do now really depends on what you want to go into in future right?

why do you still not seem to get this point . maybe you should talk to your career services staff at your school on your best course of action.

Not to dishearten you or what so ever. I was formerly from IT, switched to other industry. IT is getting saturated, they preferred "cheaper talents" to run the show these days. Look around you, most of the IT staffs are either Filipinos or Indians.

But if IT is your passion and wish to pursue IT, it will come with a price. You need to constantly need to be updated to the latest development and market trends.

Ok thanks for the advice. But if u were to switch to the IT industry will u take up management degree with other IT cert or information management degree? Just curious

If you really wanted to join IT industry or do IT jobs, any IT degree will do.

You can decide which niche area or specilization later.

FYI, my degree major is networking / data comm, but I started work as system admin, and doing system stuff for many years.
