Carrying a laptop around

Hey guys... Just wanna share with you what happened to me... My laptop base a bit deformed - front part from the center slightly curved downwards, causing a slight gap when I close the lid, which probably explained how come even when closed the laptop can still suffer power drainage by intermittent power on/off, and the back slightly bent.

Probably due to the hard objects in the bag like charger etc, pressed against the chassis causing the dents...

Called up Dell already and probably will have the bottom palm rest and bottom cover replaced....

Think I am going back to poly/uni student way of carrying by arm with laptop sleeve... Heart pain lor....

Ouch. That sounds bad. I think it partly depends on the bag you use too, along with how packed your bag is.

Have been carrying my laptop in a backpack/messenger bag for years without much issues. Even a MacBook Air - being thin and a chassis made of metal it's more likely to bend and retain a bent shape. So far, the past 2 years, the Thinkpads I've used still closes fine without warping.

I don't like carrying laptops in hand, because I generally prefer both my hands free to do other things. Also, there are far too many times where it's easy to forget/drop your laptop cos it's carried in hand.

Either get a hard case or get a backpack which is designed to carry laptop, or at the minimum a backpack that has a dedicated laptop compartment.

Anybody has any cool looking laptop bags to show and share?
I do agree to some degree holding in hand makes it a bit troublesome, especially for people like me who watches shows on the go via my tablet.

Figured this is a minimum, a bag with a laptop compartment - so we know it's built to carry laptops. I don't bother with cases/sleeves since the laptop compartment is padded.

The laptop pockets are also elevated above the base, so that the laptop does not receive any impact when you put the bag down.

And for comfort, not too form fitting to the back as well, so that there's 1) air between the back and bag, and 2) reduced tension so you don't warp the bag.

actually the reason I wanted to put it in a bag instead of carry ni arm is because I once left my laptop in a cab. I got so worried that my first hour in office I had no mood to work. Some more it was a hailed can and I did not gt a receipt.

Luckily in the end was still able to track the cabbie.

And I don't like traditional sling laptop bags.

Agree with the sling laptop bag, I personally find it a hassle and the risk of dropping it is also High especially during peak period when commuting nd the design of those bags are not wide enough so the more things you stuff inside the more compressed your laptop is.

Anyway, an update:
Last Friday the Dell technician came to my place to replace the palmrest and bottom cover. And surprisingly a touchpad module too (didn't want it cos mine not faulty, but technician insisted said since they give, then use).

Now Bottom ok already. Close up no visible gaps. Though lid I have a bit of @NAL isuues with it, but the technician told me the lid is actually a whole part consisting of the touchscreen module and hinge, so will be quite hard to make a request unless I have a "Damage Warranty".

Now I don't dare put my laptop on backpack already. Now use back my laptop sleeve and then put it inside my Evangelion tote bag. And I seperate mit form my charger and any hard, pointy items to prevent bending, denting, scratching etc from happening again.
