Have a ceiling fan installed outside, but it's gotten rusty and is almost breaking soon. Looking to replace.
Can't find any info online about fans that work well outside, and certainly not for SG climate. Any recommendations?
My only requirements are that it has a light and won't rust or anything over years of use. It's not too well protected against occasional wind/rain splashes however.
Remote control, timers etc. I won't be using, the current fan is run via a switch in the house and that's it.
Or maybe I'm overthinking this and I can just take any fan from any shop and it'll work outside?

I see listing for outdoor fan, and for ceiling fan, but not for ceiling outdoor fan. It's attached to a roof over top of a balcony

I also dunno how to see which is 'suitable'.. but many years ago, one shop recommended me use relite petite 36" for balcony. So i used for >5yrs no issue.... and wind was pretty good too

Cheap too 😆

For outdoors, especially if close to seaside, steel will rust fast

Get epoxy-coated aluminium fans, or anything that is "weather resistant"

I have no outside fans but this is what I know

Lucky is not near the coast. But yeah I'll keep an eye out for the materials. I think mine was normal aluminium with paint, so how it rusted is beyond me

just checked - it doesn't have a light.
It's close though. Need to find one that has a light.

Annoying that most fans I see have many unnecessary features like 10 speed motors, reversible rotation, remote/app control etc.
Not to mention they're either ABS or aluminum, which aren't for outdoor use.

Metal parts on the casing, bearings and circuit boards will definitely rust. Plastic parts will harden and crack.

Regular cleaning and maintenance will increase the lifespan to a limited extend.

I was just told that I should find one that's on the cheaper side. Current fan I have is not made for outside, still works but is really rusted and brown.

If the bearings are still good, I suggest a good cleaning, polishing, and some oiling will do.

New ones will rust again and it is a waste of money to keep changing.

Not sure how long it'll hold up.

Don't use ceiling fans. Use standing fans. Far superior. You can cover it too.
