Photo editing and Video editing would be an issue with Pentium and Celeron. In fact that would rule these two out.

An i3 is the bare minimum though it will not perform these tasks well

Think should get a good display also. The e485/585 can get the fhd for $25?

If you're using it for a few years it's a very good investment.

Personally, I can tell you that the budget of 500 for a video/photo editing laptop is not realistic. Sure it can be done, but if you don't mind it taking forever when it comes to video editing.

well maybe then i just go and get i3 intel.....almost same price i guess

i3 at same price, may I know which brand are you looking at? The E485/585 is from Lenovo IBM, with proper 3 year support for 1 additional buck. Also, Ryzen is no slouch vs the i3. Intel cut down too much on the i3 models to be attractive. Information on the performance between AMD Ryzen and Intel processors are readily available online, and I am stating it factually.

I also prefer Celeron.

Between Ryzen and Celeron, it makes 0 sense to go for Celeron. And at 500 bucks budget, you are probably staring down at a Celeron Silver which is quad core, but awfully slow. It is probably good for light usage with focus on long battery life.

Ryzen APU CPU is not only on par or faster than Intel,
the IGP Radeon Vega beats Intel UHD handsdown.
Thinkpad E485/E585 now it seems a popular choice since
it is under $1k.

Don't see any reason not to get one especially with a budget of $500.

Video editing with a Celeron? Hahaha. Good luck man. I have an extra laptop with a Celeron processor. Duo core, 1.1GHz, max boost 2.2GHz. Can barely process ONE clip. Lucky my main laptop has an i7-8750H processor.

Hmmm quite a tough choice to make for low budget zzzzz

Its not a tough choice, because realistically there is no choice if you are going to do video editing on it with a 500 bucks budget laptop. Sure you can get a laptop for below 500, but I think you get a sense of the response from the forum that it's going to perform really badly. I would only consider a 500 bucks laptop for light usage, ie, surfing net, watching shows, etc. Heavy lifting wise, you need a proper i3/ Ryzen processor which should cost no less than 700 to 800 bucks for a new set.
