Facing the following issues using the said telco

1) unable to connect, having this msg "The M1 number you dialled is not in work, please check the number and dial again later"

2) The phone used is those non smartphone type (meant for seniors)

3) Tried to set the phone to manual selection instead of auto selection to stay on 4G network, still encountered the problem mentioned in (1).

4) the SIM card already changed

5) the shop said there's nothing they can do when there is no issue with the phone when brought to their shop

What could likely be the issue? (Phone or network)

The easy way out could be to change to a smartphone but the issue here is the user is not gadget-savvy and has been resistant to using a smartphone.

m1 number not in use? did you forget to pay bill? sound like the number deregistered already

usually coverage issue will say "not available" instead of "not in use"
Unlikely, there were times the line managed to get through after 2,3 failed attempts

phone coverage issue? you can try in another phone, if always can call through means phone problem..

could also be phone signal weak when in pocket..

can also check Network APN settings on the Y2K phone. Should be set to "sunsurf" since on m1

The settings on Y2K differs from those smartphone that I couldn't locate the APN settings

I did set the phone to manual connect to "Changi Go 4G" network but the issue still persists.

sometime these cheap phone got strange issue... also didn't manage to solve it.. best is to buy those smart one with kai os, at least got whatsapp.. or you can diy dumb smart phone by replacing the launcher, big font, etc...
Maybe I try on a smartphone to see if things improve

m not sure if the Y2K phone supports VoLTE. if you force 4G and the phone does not support VoLTE, the call will not go through.

It will need the 3G network to makr calls, which will be shutting down later this year.

Best is to change phone or if you manage to find a VoLTE setting, turn it on.
There is a VoLTE icon on Y2K phone, fyi.

Y2K senior 4G phone
There's no specifications listed on their website except for the fact they do advertise VOLTE support on their Facebook page. Even with major brands, VOLTE support can be quite finnicky. I do recommend to just get an officially compatible handset and switch to the most basic mode so that the elderly can use easily.

You are sure that it's not the 3G version right ? They have both 3g and 4g version of the flip phone.

This is the network bar after I switched the SIM to a smartphone.

After that, I tested a few times, so far so good

Seems like the problem persists and really at my wits end.

The main issue is even after I inserted the Changi Mobile SIM card into a smartphone, the connection inconsistency remain.

Called Changi Mobile to highlight the issues and they insisted there isn't any issue when they call the number which is picked by the user.

Don't know what to do and not sure what is the problem 😞

You need to changw telco.... M1 signal is very S h t nowadays
That's one option ... Wonder should I opt for MNO or another MVNO?

The main consideration would be connectivity

Seems to be weak connectivity, 2 out of 5 bars.
Indeed, it was still able to receive and make calls after inserting the SIM at the start before the non-connectivity issue popped up a day later ... it's so 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Suggest to port out of M1 infra then, if you have other telco, do give a try on your devices before porting otherwise gonna face the same connectivity issue.

It's something I am considering but I would say I kind of scared what if the same problem occurs after changing telco 😭

Bobian, you have to test yourself as it might be specific to your block/area for each telco's reception.
Generally Singtel should fare the best, followed by Starhub and lastly M1.
Doesn't matter MVNO/MNO, its only the 3 telcos to choose from technically.

Thanks 👍🏻 will explore my options, it's just getting frustrating that the connection is not consistent.
