Changing MB in Acer desktop

Hi,
I am thinking of upgrading the MB and CPU in my 6 years old desktop. Will a new MB fit into the casing? Thanks.

Doubt so, OEM usually custom built motherboard to their own spec.

6 years, time for a complete overhaul.

If you are changing MB and CPU, might as well do a new rig.

Acer is not upgrade-friendly in any case.

What's the model number? Acer generally uses somewhat standard motherboard, should fit but must check first

Most oem either custom build their mobo or their psu (size and mounting).

What I did before was I took the Intel CPU Quad Core Q8300 & 4K RAM from the Acer desktop and bought a new MSI mobo, 500W PSU, graphic card GT630 and $50 case. No point using back the Acer case. Still using the PC till now and running well after many years.

Suggest u get a new casing since the price an average casing not too expansive... Save time and trip running about to get the motherboard fit into the casing.

I had a feeling the PSU cable might be long enough to connect to the motherboard.

Unless the casing is those proprietary mini system or all-in-one casing. Acer SFF/mATX casing can fit any SFF/mATX motherboard without the need to change it.

The only technical valid reason to change the casing is the lack of front USB 3 ports for newer USB3.0 motherboard, other than that, the casing should works with any DIY motherboard of the same platform.

That's right. As long as it is a tower model.
