Hi I am currently taking my level 3. Can share here if you want to. The CMT association has been making alot of changes. The higher the levels you go, the less you realise its about charting. Level 1 is fairly simple. The difficulty from level 1 to 2 is exponentially alot higher.

Does it make me a better trader? I would say no. Just like how studying business management degree doesnt make someone a good boss. It takes practice and experience. But the course will definitely open your eyes and wealth of knowledge to charting and trading.

Put it this way... CFA for investing, CMT for trading.

Hi Sir,

I am sincerely looking for some guidance.

I recently just signed up for CMT level 1 taking exams in Nov - Dec period.

I have a few of queries, that I sincerely hope you can help with.
There isn't alot of people taking CMT, mostly are taking CFA, thus CMT
resources are very little, let alone a local CMT community to check with.

I truly hope you find the time to kindly help me with the following,

1) Where can I choose the exam date that I want? Currently only shows 27 Nov to 5 Dec.

2) Where in SG are the exams held at?

3) The recommended reading material is by Wiley: CMT level 1 2018 Edition, did you get it from the wiley online store?

4) Is the Wiley Test Bank subscription worth it for me to practice on the exam?

I sincerely hope you can kindly find the time to help me with my queries. It would enlighten me greatly!

hi, i just finished level 1 cmt in april... personally i feel that it is useful as it will really give you indepth knowledge on technical analysis and there are lots of interesting information in the textbook... warning though: there is a lot of reading to do... level II i will be taking in december (792 pages) and the book is about 20% thicker than level 1, which is already hefty at 600~ pages! some parts are also interesting but not that relevant to our day to day trading (e.g. points and figures chart)

I personally feel that the exam is useful for theory but to really master trading, the application part you really have to make sure that you practise yourself (e.g. try and spot the patterns during your trading). If you never put it into practice, most probably will forget what you have learnt after a few months.

One thing to note, if you are taking it only for the three letters CMT after your name, this will not be worthwhile as it does not help you much with your job hunt unless you are getting into a trading or technical analysis role. Encourage you to take the CMT for your own learning and not for the accreditation! One last thing to be aware is that the textbooks are expensive... original textbooks from Wiley are around SGD300.

Hi bro,

1) Where can I choose the exam date that I want? Currently only shows 27 Nov to 5 Dec.

After you pay, you will be asked to go to Prometric website and you can choose your day in that portal. More instructions will come after you sign up but generally all the days are available if you sign up early. For me, I signed up a bit late and there was only Tuesday - Friday left.

2) Where in SG are the exams held at?

There are several prometric examination centres all over singapore with a variety of timings, e.g. 9am, 9:30am, and even afternoon sessions (they usually close at 6pm). You can just choose the one most convenient for you and the exams are all computer based

3) The recommended reading material is by Wiley: CMT level 1 2018 Edition, did you get it from the wiley online store?

I bought it from efficientlearning.com. I bought on the store then shipped it back to singapore via forwarder. If you are thinking of buying the 2018 edition for level 1, i might be able to let go of my copy (original cost around $300+). I initially wanted to keep for reference but think will be more useful for you if you need it... let me know if you want to buy my copy and we can discuss further!

4) Is the Wiley Test Bank subscription worth it for me to practice on the exam?

I think the test bank might come in handy if you are the kind that need lots of practice questions as there are zero questions in the textbook. However, i still passed without doing any question but you really need to memorize your charts etc. It might be better if you go through the textbook first and buy the testbank if you need more questions to revise. There is a mock paper provided by CMT and that was the only practice questions I used...

Paiseh i just saw this...

Basically, you can only choose the exam date through the prometric portal after signing up for the exam..

The exam will be held at prometric testing centre... in sg, there is only 1 and thats at King's arcade along bukit timah...

Also, the only available resources are from wiley... level 1 is easy... level 2 is much harder... im currently preparing for level 3!

I also agree with hidetoshi. Cmt no point taking unless you really want to go into trading or technical analysis. Also, completing it, you cant get your cmt charter immediately. You need to show you have relevant working experience

haha I think there are more than 1... I did mine at Tradehub in jurong east... I think there were about 4 or 5 more options when I signed up... perhaps more will open up depending on the prometric system and the timing that you go in... I sign up mega late so not sure if this is why? haha

I wasn't hopeful when i started this thread, but now i am surprised to know that fellow members are taking CMT.

I was thinking of perfecting my trading skills through this program. CFA is out for me since it's too difficult for me.

I like trading though.

Cmt doesnt help you in perfecting your trading skills. Only proper practice and discipline does. What cmt does for you is to give you a proper view and a framework to start with. Dont go in with the wrong expectations. Just like how CFA doesnt make one a superstar fundamental analyst. CMT is getting harder though. So i suggest you hurry clear it.

:)Thank you so much for answering my questions!:)
I actually emailed them asking for directions of and was given a link to the prometric website to pick a date for exams, and upon that was given a 170 days plus trial charting tool called Optuma. I think that is pretty cool.

I was only recommended the one at TradeHub21 for exam venue.

I saw the reading material from efficientlearning.com, which is wiley's website, and found it too be so ex!, the price excludes shipping with is an additional USD60.00 and it takes 7 - 9 days to reach me.

Manage to find an alt which offers free shipping and same number of days to reach me.

Just that now, I think I am going to skip the test bank for level 1, since it is only level 1 :s13:. Might start considering it for level 2 and 3.

I think this thread is great, to start off a local community for people interested in CMT!:)

Thank you for the heads-up!
I hope they take into account experience garnered before I started on the course, not after.:s13:

I am open to people adding me as contact, we can meet up for a drink or two, just to share pointers!

It will be good to have contacts and friends in the CMT circle.
Will not feel so cold and lonely! HAHA!
Good to bounce off questions and ideas to and fro!

Feel free to pm me!

I believe there are more than those concepts you mentioned.
But be it CFA, CMT or whatever, you cannot hit 100% unless you are that company's Boss.

We are just here trying to make the chances reach 99.9999999999% but we can never hit 100%.

This is all about sharing, information being filtered by people from different discipline and combining to obtain the accurate non-noise info.:)

If you're learning for personal investments, then you can self-learn from internet resources and library. Much cheaper.
