consumer laptop don't really last.

Most of my corporate customers using HP business models are pretty sturdy and lasting.

Depends on the price for extended warranty. With prices of new laptops that are quite low, it may be wiser to just get a new one.

Anyway, I believe different people have different experiences. Some may have purchased the same laptop, but do not have any problems with it.

Yeah, many say acer sucks, I had one netbook that endured 1m high drop twice and still working. End up display cable had some problem, sold it off =:p

Pay peanuts get monkey.
Want really lasting, if you are a student.
Should have gone for HP business line which schools does sell.
HP Probook/Elitebook, Dell Latitude/Precision, Lenovo T series/X series.

Yes those are rather expensive but three years onsite warranty.
Durability will outshine consumer grade.
Consumer grade usually won't last or rather MTBF is rather short.

Make money ma, early spoil than ask consumer to change.
Business wise cannot, if early spoil lawyer letter come. :s13:

Got a HP Elitebook 9470M nearly hitting 5 years 0 breakdowns heavy use and rough handling.

ThinkPad T430s also nearing 5 years hit by Lenovo fan error after post & backlit key quality issue (being worse than non backlit). Both were fixed with hardware replacements under final year of warranty and are non-catastrophic failures. Still decent but not as good as IBM.

Otherwise its quite fault free for the most.
must be asus right? asus laptop seriously suck. when will people learn

People don't realise Asus's primary contract manufacturer for laptops and handheld are *cough* foxconn than bigger ODMs with better QC like Quanta, Compal, Wistron etc.

Not sure who makes Asus motherboards and GPUs now, its probably still Pegatron - their former manufacturing arm so QC didn't really tank.

HP Business class laptops are damn solid:
HP Probook 6465b (4 years), retired w/o issue
HP Elitebook 745 G3, been using for 10 months.

Think the most durable one shld be the old Thinkpad (before they becomes Lenovo). My T43 bought more than 10 years ago still going strong.

Through the years replaced the CPU fan Nia. That's one $20 repair cos I diy bought the parts from eBay and self replace

Foxconn makes iPhone for Apple leh. People are raving over its build quality. If it is shoddy and not up to its standard, Apple would have changed its manufacturer already.

How it died?

Devices like network card suddenly one fine day cannot be detected by Windows. Intermittent problem. Sometime can detect, sometime cannot. On the rare occasions that it could detect, the device would fail to initialize the driver successfully. Checked Device Manager. Device either missing totally, or there is an exclamation mark with error code saying "there is a problem with this device. (Error code: XX)"

Became a useless paperweight.

Don't assume same quality standard applies across all product lines.

Previously a laptop could go 10 years and still running until too slow to run any modern software.

So I thought even if cut costs quality drops Make In China now should still be able to last 3 to 5 years. But my most recent experience lasted me only 1.5 years. Just 6 months over warranty and it started acting up.

Wonder if this is intentional by manufacturer and hardwares are designed to fail once warranty is just over.

Again this boils down to the QC standard imposed by the company such as Apple and also the budget. Same manufacturer does not equate to same quality. If one is willing to pay more, I am sure even MIC products can be made durable.
