CPU is generally okay to buy overseas cos amongst all components, it should have the lowest chance of failure when handled correctly. The only issue is if you buy CPU, you sure need a mobo and sometimes CPU + mobo bundle can offer quite good discounts overall

If scared to buy from online and cant take the risk, buy locally and directly from shops. At least can inspect items.

Buying online carries such risk and buyer must take it upon themselves.

With that said, cpu not easy to break during shipping.

Generally buying cpu from well known websites like amazon newegg should be safe. But if you are talking about buying the cpu from sites like taobao. Might carry a certain risk.

So far bought some intel and amd cpu from taobao at cheap cheap $3-$5 to flash and upgrade motherboard bios and they work perfectly fine. The package they wrap in newspaper but inside the newspaper the chip is package safely in the cpu package box so its safe during transportation. Then they just put the newspaper inside a cardboard box. Although the cardboard box appears to be dented because you know they sometimes anyhow throw here throw there until the box dented. But upon opening the box the cpu is perfectly fine.

But I think for cpu just buy local ba because got the cpu+mobo bundle discount at SLS quite worth. No risk also like others mention. Buy overseas also don't know how much you can save compare to local.

Generally if the cpu you want to buy is cheap like $3-$5 or $10 can take the risk and buy from taobao. But for anything more then $100 I don't dare to take the risk rather just buy from local or from well known sites with good support like amazon or newegg.

The experience from buying abroad is almost the same as buying from SLS. Only diff is mall designs and handling diff currency nia...

If worried so much, just buy from SLS sua. At least if something wrong, you know where to go bang table

Intel and AMD have international warranty for their CPU. So if you buy from retail stores oversea (amazon), it can be serviced in Singapore. Just do a RMA request on their respective website and they will ask you to bring down / mail to their RMA address

Bought my cpu, ram, motherboard, x2 gpu and psu from amazon. Products came with no defect. One of my gpu burnt months before warranty ended, managed to rma it (at your own cost). All in all, save few hundreds.

I usually buy those high end chips (extreme editions, XM, K series) from ebay.

Cheap yes, Warranty no, GST freaking yes when it arrives at your door.

I think most bros here choose to buy from Amazon due to these reasons

1) price WAY CHEAPER for some parts (high speed rams, high capacity ssd, gfx), especially during BF or CM
2) well known good after sales customer service
3) convenient
