What is the cheapest now?

I currently on StarHub 500mbps deal but it is still over $30.00 inclusive GST.

I understand this Whizzcomm has a 20 something dollar deal rite? Do they provide ONT modem or can set ONR into bridge mode?

I have the Starhub 500Mbps plan (no contract since 2020) and intend to keep it for the forseable future.

My recommendation is to stick to it and not to look at cheaper S$21.80 per month plan from WC (aggregated 2.5Gbps, ONR) and SIMBA (CGNAT, no static IPv4 add-on).

But if you really want to go for the cheapest, then you can take a bit of risk and go with WC 2.5Gbps plan and bridge the WC ONR by yourself. You can read the following comparison and see if you want to switch or not.

Actually consider cheap. Should stick to it.

why isps can't keep and lower the 100mbps-500mbps price instead of making us pay for 1gbps and above?

can complain to case or not?

Just like food stalls, the telcos are trying to raise the minimum cost of subscription per customer in line with inflation. :o

M1 is the only ISP which still offers 500Mbps plan to new users. It is still of great value at S$30.45 per month.
https://www.m1.com.sg/home-broadband

M1/Starhub existing users will also be able to keep using their 500Mbps plan at about S$30.45 without contract. So it is okay for them to keep using the existing plan as well.

Then again, WC 2.5Gbps plan at S$21.80 per month is also of good value for average users who do not mind using ONR.

As for existing 1Gbps plan users who are paying around S$40 per month, Starhub and M1 2Gbps offer at S$39 are of great value too.

Actually I dun mind using ONR but I understand some telcos are using CGNAT which means we are issued with private ip addresses much like a computer in a company network or school network and have no public ip addresses assigned to the connection.

After all the costs, I would be saving about $5/mth

Previously paying about $47 for starhub 1gb

Now this 1 year contract whizcomms costs about $28/mth ($19 cheaper),plus misc fees about $160 ($13/mth)
($19-$13=$6 saved monthly)

WC 2.5Gbps plan at S$21.80 per month is using ONR but not CGNAT. It has public IPv4 address.

Some use cases for Starhub/M1 2Gbps plan.

Use case 1-- for Starhub/M1 users who do not get good recontract offer for the 1Gbps plan, or other users who want to jump to a new ISP (eg: Singtel users).

Use case 2 -- for those who want to upgrade from 500Mbps/1Gbps, yet do not want to upgrade to 5Gbps/10Gbps plans. For example, for those who do not have 10G capable gears but already have a good router capable of Dual WAN Load balancing, for example, Asus TUF-AX6000 and GT-AX6000 (dual 2.5G ports), RT-AX86U and RT-AX86U Pro (single 2.5G port). They can use dual WAN Load Balancing to achieve > 1.6Gbps wired speed and >1.0Gbps wireless speed.

Use case 3 -- for those who have tenants and want to have a seperate network for the tenants.

I see.... Using ONR still can host servers or not ah?

You can set up your wireless router in AP mode to avoid Double NAT, then set up port forward on the ONR.

Or if you bridge the ONR, then the bridged ONR port is the same as ONT port. New users will get ZTE ZXHN F620 ONR which has the known bridging methods.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/...ed-double-nat-and-onr-bridging.6938685/page-3

If you want to know more about WC 2.5Gbps plan, you may want to ask in the WC thread.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/whizcomms-new-fibre-broadband-provider.5494964/page-111

You do need to know the catch of WC 2.5Gbps even after bridging the ONR, as it is using Singtel network.
1) bad routing to certain internation locations, may be bad for gaming.
2) throttling of BT traffic, but there are work-arounds which you can ask in the WC thread.

Yes, you can port forward from ONR to your router and forward again your router to your server. I been doing this for years.

Alternative you can do DMZ to your router which i dont recommend.

Someone already modified the configure on the ONR to ONT for WC but your lose the 2.5 agg. I have not done that yet as I am utilizing 1gb on 2 port.

No, you do not lose the 2.5Gbps after bridging the WC ONR -- one port bridged (1Gbps) and the other three ports not bridged.

One Bridged port -- up to 1Gbps
Three Unbridged ports -- each port up to 1Gbps, total up to 2.5Gbps combined
Total combined -- up to 2.5Gbps download and 1.25 Gbps upload (GPON limitation).

for a new homeowner, which telco is currently the best for broadband? m1,starhub, singtel.

I think my requirement is quite simple, 5 room HDB (new), able to play games,

No case to complain as you can always terminate the service and go. M1 no longer offer 500 mbps and provide free upgrade to 1Gbps plan and gave $3 discount every month at $36.90/mth which is very cheap. 2.5G at $39.90/mth with free router is a good deal.
