Saw the cherry blossoms in early April in 2017 and it was an unforgettable sight. Planning a trip again this year, but to Fukuoka in late march (around 21 - 24 March). Hope to see it again...

from my experience, just take these super early report with some handful of salt. it's hardly ever accurate. Maybe from Mid March then it will be a bit more accurate but still, nobody knows for sure. In April, at any point of time, there is a full bloom of sakura somewhere in Japan. The thing is whether you're willing to travel there if it's not the same place you are currently based in.

Planning a trip again this year, but to Fukuoka in late march (around 21 - 24 March).

The latest forecast I've seen for Fukuoka (published Jan 18) predicts first bloom March 20 and full bloom March 30. First bloom means just a few flowers out and full bloom means 80% blooming. The best time to see is generally a few days before and after full bloom.

However as previous poster mentioned these early predictions aren't so accurate. A prediction in January is on average 4 days wrong. Hope you'll be lucky.
